Microsoft + Blizzard merger get preliminary approval

You can say that, but I’ve never heard that anywhere else.

Nope they were neutral on it…

It’s in the transcript heh…

Opening Remarks
9 THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon, everybody. Before we begin, I am going to make
10 the usual live stream warning. Some of you are joining us via our website on live
11 stream. An official recording is being made and an authorised transcript of these
12 proceedings will be produced, but it is prohibited for anyone else to make an
13 unauthorised recording, audio or visual, or to photograph the proceedings and
14 a breach of that provision is punishable as a contempt. I should explain, however, that
15 because of an application that may be made in a moment, the LiveNote may run rather
16 more shortly than is to be expected, but those listening will, of course, be able to hear
17 the application and my ruling in relation to it before anything happens to the stream.
18 Mr Beard, I understand there is an application to cut the live stream.
19 MR BEARD: Yes, there is, sir. I think we explained this in the back end of our
20 submissions. It has obviously not rendered the proceedings non-public, but because
21 of the sensitivity in relation to, essentially, market moving noise that occurs during the
22 course of a hearing, it is asked that the live stream, on this occasion, be disabled.
23 Obviously, it will mean that a transcript is available in due course. These are public
24 proceedings and people are attending both from the public and from the press. We
25 don’t want to stop that in any way.
26 THE PRESIDENT: Lord Grabiner, do you have anything to add?
27 LORD GRABINER: My Lord, we support that application.
28 THE PRESIDENT: Mr Bailey?
3
1 MR BAILEY: We are neutral on the point. It is a matter for the tribunal.

 :point_up_2:

Isn’t that just the portion of the trial where they talked off camera for 1 hour, and then the remaining 7 hours was on camera?

Like the FTC trial for instance, had gaps where it wasn’t on camera.

Heck, if anything, the trial was basically:
“PRESIDENT: Okay that was a dumb set of stall tactics. Let’s just go with the plan we discussed while off camera.”

Was almost anti-climactic.

Yes because the judge shot down the request to not have it live streamed:

2 THE PRESIDENT: I am grateful.
3 It seems to me that the question is whether this hearing should be in private or in
4 public. I appreciate, of course, that Microsoft are not saying that it should go into
5 private session, but a distinction between in public proceedings, where people are
6 present and well able to understand what is going on, being permitted, and a live
7 stream, where people can see what is going on, is not permitted, is not a distinction
8 that I am prepared to draw on this occasion. So we will proceed with the live stream
9 as it stands, but I do want to be very clear that these are important, of wide public
10 interest proceedings and what I said on the last occasion when the LiveNote was
11 suspended, holds in spades today. I expect people to watch and to do no more than
12 that

So it ended up being livestreamed anyway heh…

:stuck_out_tongue:

…? Yes

I mean it was largely because the Judge said “Do not re-stream, that is highly illegal”.
And people did it anyways. So turning off the stream was basically “punishing” that bad behavior by the public.

Bit of a shame that they didn’t do the full trial - I was hoping to attend one of the days in person…

:sob:

Micro$oft will gut all of Bli$$ards IPs even further, I am so excited. Expect more god awful monetization practices, even lazier shortcuts and ways out of being responsible, and don’t expect anything to be fixed.

We won’t see results of anything for another 2-3+ years. Probably 5 years maximum. OW won’t even survive waiting that long to get things in a better place, not that it ever had a chance under Micro$oft.

Edit: Came back to add this, if fools are willing to wait for the bare minimum(again) in that they’d probably have to wait 4-5 years for Micro$oft to even notice this IP but couldn’t wait for a real sequel, it really just shows how many of you have been fully gaslit and manipulated by these horrendous scumbag companies.

Much as I’ve been against the deal due to concerns around cloud streaming…

I don’t think Microsoft will actually make things worse…

They might add mouse and keyboard support for console and they have an interest in getting into mobile so we could see Overwatch on iPhone which could be pretty cool…

:money_mouth_face:

More hiring? That is not how merges work. If anything there will be layoffs.

As long as sarah looks at the steam reviews and starts sitting down to read the forums and get a generalized Idea of what the real problem is. I think things will go smooth.

i. Hero editions in this game were nice. But Blizzard should have taken the approach of making these characters be “background” heroes to the main cast of characters.

ii. Overwatch “1” was a strong launch and generally speaking, it had some problems. but not enough to warrant re-works of characters right away. It wasn’t until they launched new heroes that had “super-kits” that we found the characters to be oppressive and not with the game’s original design.

iii. Maps for quickplay IS “content”.

iv. Match making should be entirely thrown out and quickly discarded. It should split the Q between Solos and Premades.

v. With the fact that this game NEEDs to cost money in order to “buy” a copy to play. With a mandatory minimum of 30 dollars. So it pays for expenses and the cost of the damage that smurffs and cheaters cause.

vi. heroes should never be behind a paywall. EVER.

vii. Players should be awarded some coins at the end of every completed match. to incentivize and offset bad matches. (Win/loss) receive a payout. So there is less of a reason to leave.

I don’t know who would be a winner. There’s just have been a Microsoft gigaleak recently for example.

Legit the only thing why i want the merger is because we might get the Transformers games back

It is when ActiBliz has already been in maintenance mode for the last 4+ years, and Microsoft wants the asset they just bought to function at it’s full value.

Especially since Microsoft is in a race with other tech giants to get a “Netflix of Gaming” up to speed, before competitors can get there first.

That said, removing and replacing Kotick would be appreciated.

They just want the branding and the IPs.

Usually when companies merge they get rid of the excessive staff to reduce cost on top of the money they have spent buying the company. They will put their people on those positions.

Even if it isn’t TOP priority, I hope microsoft realizes the potential of the OW IP and quadruples the team size so they can do truly amazing things…

And make prices reasonable. No skin should ever cost more than $5…$10 for maybe the highest qualities.

Microsoft has bought Activision and many other companies, and now maybe Blizzard. This is kind of illegal.

And theres no reason to think this will make the game better.

It will be like when activison and blizzard merged.

No it’s very specifically not illegal. If being this big as a game company were illegal 4 other game companies would be in trouble first.

ITT tons of people that want to **** ** ** *** *** from mega corps.

The way I see it. What they are doing isn’t “Usual”.

They are building a “Netflix of Gaming” brand.

They will expect large expenses, and losses to get there.

And that it’s an existential problem for the company. Not just a “keep doing what you’ve been doing” move.

  1. They might shutter the Xbox brand if things don’t go well by 2027
  2. Internet cookies run the internet commerce, and they are kinda dying. App data collection is the alternative solution.
  3. ActivisionBlizzard is the third most popular Non-Chinese mobile game publisher
  4. But with the iPhone 15, it’s demoing “full power gaming” on a docked phone with a wireless controller. (I.e. Basically a better Nintendo Switch)

I looked at a video where they were running Assassin’s Creed Mirage but it looked like it was a pretty low resolution around 720p heh…

Still kind of cool…

I’m pretty sure iPhones have had more power than a Nintendo Switch for quite a few generations now heh…

Wonder why they don’t bring Overwatch to iPhone…
