Mercy's balance is, as always, a hot topic, but things have changed now

There’s no more threads asking for a full revert. And I don’t think there has been for a while. In fact I went back and looked to see every thread that mentions Mercy in the OP over the past week, and just 1 thread mentioned the possibility of a return to Mass Rez (A Mercy Rework Idea that combines both Valkyrie and Mass Resurrect which might work if adjusted accordingly)

Whether you think Mercy is balanced or not, you have to acknowledge that Mercy mains have accepted that pre-rework Mercy is likely never coming back, and stopped asking for it as a result.

i think after the devs saying “we are not gonna rework anyone in the near future” over and over and over they finally took the hint.
Maybe.
Now they talk about rework, but obviously, it’s a rework that features mass rez wth so many gimmicks you wonder if they really want a fun character or ar just desperate to get mass rez back.

Or people just got tired.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, I haven’t seen Aria in months (she might of actually got perma-banned), and people don’t care anymore.

I never cared much for mass rez, but I never really approved of the new state shes in either. I hate that they watered her down to compensate for rezs power and at this point I would rather see rez removed and her kit reworked to something a little more impactful as a whole.

I was including “rework” threads that mentioned mass rez in that look tbh, so you can’t even pin that on them

The staff are currently on vacation. Posting about it at the moment is kind of pointless. I think you’ll see the threads start up again in early January.

Corrected for accuracy. A handful of people drove those threads.

I still want it to come back. But theres not much else to discuss on the topic that hasn’t been said thousands of times before.

Ended up getting a notification thinking that someome replied to me and I saw the topic title and started thinking “I don’t remember commenting on this” and when I noticed the link posted is the rework idea I made. Well I was quite shocked about it but it gives me a bit of joy as well for some reason.
(My iPad loves to mess up grammar for some reason)

The devs tend to say a lot of things and then immediately do the opposite. Especially when it comes to Mercy; “We think she’s in a good spot right now and have no plans to change her” is pretty much code talk for “we’re gonna nerf it to h3ll next PTR” at this point.

Yeah except they’ve said the won’t bring back mass rez/revert her THREE TIMES over the course of a year. I wish Mercy players would stop asking for it. It’s not coming back.

At this point many don’t really care about a revert, even though it was said it was an option when they did the rework. I just don’t like rez as an E and Valk is just an awful ultimate.

One of the approaches I don’t see talked about much is potentially breaking Mercy into multiple characters.

From the survey’s I’ve done/read from other people most of the people that play Mercy don’t agree on what they want and also most don’t actually like all of the elements of the current Mercy.

I think you could probably modify the current Mercy to be a bit more popular but, in the long term I think splitting the character would probably be a healthier option as each variant could be designed to appeal to a more specific audience.

You’ve got Mercy players that want Mass Res, Single Res, and Mercy players that don’t want res at all.

Some players absolutely love Valk and others just plain hate it.

Chain beams in Valk are also a bit controversial from what I can tell.

You’ll find that while many Mercy players do want more healing, a decent portion would actually rather have more power in other parts of the kit rather than more healing.

Valk is one of the longer ults in the game but, it seems like while some players like that about it many other players would rather have a short ultimate.

While the opinions Mercy players have don’t necessarily follow patterns some of them appeared to do so.

For example, in one of my surveys of the players that did not like flying in Valk a significant majority preferred Mass Res, wanted a short ultimate, and wanted more power in the rest of the kit more than more healing.

I think if Blizzard ran an actual survey about Mercy they could find some patterns that they could design a hero or two around to better align with what the people that play the characters want.

I think that when they look into reworking anyone they should send a survey to the people that play the character to ensure they know what the people that play the character like the most about it.

Many of the folks asking for a rework really want that rework to be…wait for it…a revert

same old stuff in a new shiny wrapper

Uhm, no…I have been on a thread all day with folks arguing for the return of mass rez.

Acceptance has definitely not occurred

certain youtubers have multiple forum accounts

I have seen at least one of these accounts for the youtuber you mentioned logged on and active today

I think it has less to do with “accepting” and more to do with an evolution of an argument.
#revertmercy” was largely a kneejerk response to people hating the rework and having very little faith in Blizzard to fix it. For them, reverting was an easy, immediate way to make the rework go away.

Well, now we’re past the point of any solution being easy and immediate so people who don’t like the rework are taking more time to evaluate what they actually want Mercy to be. I honestly don’t think many people ever really thought mass rez was perfect. I mean, I was a Mercy main back when we had it. We didn’t love it. It’s just that somehow Blizzard managed to make her even worse. Now we’re stepping back and talking about what could finally be better.

I think it’s the fact that other forms of media are easier to express your feelings without people quickly jumping to assuming that anyone who wants Mercy reworked actually means they want a revert. Aria is still very much active on social media about all different forms of Mercy.

As long as Valk remains in the game as it is, I will be on team #ReworkMercy. However I know there are countless people who do love Mercy as is which is great, I’m just simply not one of them.
