You’re not impressing anybody flying around and only damage boosting your friend who never hits their shots. Never using Resurrection. Always refusing to switch and participate in the match. Why? What is so special about this character?
This is not a Mercy issue, but rather a "one- trick " issue.
The new progression system does not help with this case either.
You’re not impressing anyone by taking beef with it, either. ![]()
Some people just wanna play with their friends without being especially good at the game.
Remember fun? It may be overwatch, but people still like fun.
Yeah, cause Genjis, Widows, Balls, Doomfists, etc. always switch immediately when being asked, right?
I mean sure, but having fun at the expense of the rest of the people on your team is pretty selfish imo ![]()
And hopefully we’re not talking about doing this in anything other than qp -do it in comp and youre super lame.
You’ve gotta remember that those are other people on your team, though. Playing Mercy isn’t more selfish than other people playing other characters.
Besides, people who lose their minds over what other people on their team are playing are in that elo for a reason and refusing to have fun. They’re torturing themselves at their own expense whether or not someone else plays Mercy. ![]()
They can do that in QP, not in Comp.
QP is supposed to be for fun. Everyone who queues up for Comp should be trying to win.
If its not working, we need some swaps. Not just for the Mercy, but for the DPS and the tanks.
Just because we have an ability doesn’t mean we need to use it. Especially if the ability is a death sentence unless tech exploits are used.
I’d play a hero I feel proficient in rather than one I don’t play very often just because they have an ability to counter someone else.
I think many people would, but I don’t claim that as a fact.
Would you rather have a Mercy player play Mercy and perform mediocre due to the pick not being ideal or would you have have a Mercy player play Ana and perform subpar, getting nothing done?
Ask your DPS to go Pharah, Echo, Sojourn, Ashe, etc. so Mercy can get more value instead
Sometimes it doesn’t boil down to the abilities. Honestly, Mercy is a great pick for teams that don’t strategically coordinate with each other. When I have to babysit two DPS players who are off doing their own side quests, a tank that is forcing pushes and flanking with no one behind them, etc., Mercy allows me to heal all of them sporadically and quickly but at least I can keep up. It’s much more difficult to do that with heroes that are relatively immobile, require LOS, must be within close range, or have the trade space where they put themselves at high risk when healing. I can sustain players and buy the other support (who has those limitations) time to get to the fight.
Sometimes Mercy is damage control for dumb behavior. In other words, players picking Mercy aren’t always selecting her because of their own inadequacies; sometimes (I’d argue most times) it’s because of the team’s inadequacies. It’s easy to miss when you’re not the one doing that work.
OP specifically calls out Mercys who play grouped with a friend and ignore the entire rest of the team, only boosting and healing their friend.
That is selfish, especially in a game like OW that is so heavily a team based game.
Its the most powerful ability in the game -I get that you cant use it in every situation, but Mercys who just never use it are bad.
I don’t think that this is as true as it used to be, even in QP. At least in low to average level play. I often notice the exact point at which Mercys lose all confidence in the rest of us and switch to Moira or something instead.
Yes, but I wasn’t talking about the mechanisms of gameplay.
I’m talking about the reasons people play. It’s dumb to heal one’s own friend exclusively on a team, but it’s no less dumb to make demands.
You can’t play games online and expect everyone to conform to what you want. That’s insane. It’s like walking into an active fire pit and expecting no fire.
The sheer number of people who do expect an entire team to revolve around them are why overwatch has had such a bad reputation among online shooters almost its entire lifespan. Poor management has attracted and catered to that crowd, but that crowd is still that crowd.
And before you try to throw that point in my face, do recall that the whole point of this thread is “oh man, I hate it when people do things I don’t like.”
My point in the first place is “at least those negligent users aren’t refusing to have fun; some other negligent users actively avoid it.”
This isnt about a firepit with no fire, forcing someone to do what you want or forcing people to have no fun. Have all the fun you want, just dont ignore 3/5 of your team because youre making it less fun for everyone else. You’ll probably cost your team the game as well.
It’s more annoying watching them play their hero completely wrong.
I see so many Mercy’s not damage boosting their DPS & just healing their tank and it makes me so frustrated ![]()
This is not a “Mercy player” issue nor a “Mercy one-trick” issue. This is a dps main issue, where they are queueing as Mercy to boost their friend.
Of course, I don’t speak for everyone, but I main Mercy, and I have grouped with lots of players who have extensive Mercy experience. And none of them does this Mercy girlfriend gameplay where they just sit in one player’s pocket, because it always leads to a loss.
If one pays enough attention, they can see the huge difference between someone who knows how to play Mercy, and someone who sits back and right clicks their friend straight into the DEFEAT screen. The former is a Mercy player, the latter is not.
So are you mad at mercy as a hero or the person who was playing the hero?
Sounds like you just don’t like mercy.
Iunno ignoring the rest your team isn’t exactly the best thing to do when they’re low on health lol
Nor is it a DPS issue, this is a “one trick” issue, not a mercy one trick, but just one-tricks in general.
