How’s she objectively worse than Moira, though?
From Gold/Plat up, the only reason to pick Moira over Mercy is if your team has a very “expensive” tank that needs plenty of hp/s healing to keep alive, like D.va. But in most situations, I think Mercy’s Rez and Dmg Boost completely overshadow Moira’s kit.
There’s a reason one is usable in higher ranks and the other isn’t.
I agree it depends on rank and team comp obviously, but I think especially at lower ranks Moira just has such an easier time keeping her team alive. Mercy can only do so much with single beam when teams aren’t coordinated, where as Moria can pick up a lot of slack.
This is not false, but I don’t think she seems harder because she is worse in these ranks. I think she is worse in these ranks because she is harder.
They knew exactly what they were doing when they made that spray…
Switching from a hero that is heavily invested in space creation and initiation to mercy is an absolutely mental mess for me.
Low rankers tend to take excessive amount of damage, to the point 2 main healers healing them is not enough healing.
Perfectly played mercy is really hard to play on low ranks, since no matter what you do correctly, everyone either seems to just die or you gain nothing from playing mercy at a high level because she only has one utility that benefits low ranks and that’s ress. Surviving doesn’t mean your team does survive, damageboosting doesn’t mean they hit their attacks, tracking ultis doesn’t mean your team can counter them and ulti spam tends to win games more often than not, so you need defensive ultimate. Valkyrie doesn’t mean team stacks up for the beams or even pushes.

Just pocket the obvious DPS (McCree, Ashe, Hanzo, Widow, Pharah, Bastion, Junkrat etc.) with damage boost constantly until they need HP, and keep your squishy teammates alive. You should be constantly topping off your 200hp allies and only heal tanks if they’re in desperate need. If you’re having to heal tanks most of the match you should be playing another healer. You can sometimes boost tanks damage if they’re in the best position to do the most damage (like Orisa shooting a Rein shield) but otherwise pocketing DPS is the way to go. It just comes down to knowing who to target & how to position. The best mercys have her mobility mastered, the rest is easy
Yeah I don’t play Mercy and I used to play lots of Medic in Team Fortress 2. Of course the little bit I did play her was in QP where my team scattered leaving me with no one to GA to. Even with 2-2-2 coming to QP I don’t see myself ever playing her. I only tried her in first place because of achievement hunting. But it felt awful to play her so I gave up on that.
Besides Mercy I also don’t play
- Lucio
- Doomfist
- Pharah
- Genji
Something about their forms of movement makes it really hard for me to play them. So I just don’t play them cause it would be a waste of time trying to force something I know isn’t going to work out.
Ana mains are laughing at you so hard right now. Mercy doesn’t have to do any of the following :
- manage multiple cooldowns
- always be in a perfect position
- hit shots frequently and in rapid succession
- constantly be swapping between proactive and reactive thinking (i.e. team bionade vs anti-nade)
It really just depends on your metric for difficulty
Mercy is easy for me, has always been. Depends on the person.
Is there a DPS on the team that benefits well from damage boost?
Will your team composition be spread out in most fights?
Will your team be competent enough to take minimal damage by the use of cover and sight lines?
Answering “yes” to these questions makes picking Mercy somewhat viable.
But the answer to these questions are not within the Mercy player’s control.
If the answer to any of these questions is “no”, you’re almost always better off going with a healer that has better burst healing or a defensive ult.
Because these abilities allow a support to save lives.
Mercy sucks at saving lives (ironic for the doctor who is most dedicated to healing).
