only hero with the ability to create map geometry, only character able to create true LOS blocking, still has freeze via her ult, still has an AOE slow
if the only thing that made her “fun” and “unique” was being able to chain freeze people, you’re a demon.
A lot of players dislike genji’s dragonblade… a lot of players disliked Brigitte existing…a lot of players hate Mercy, Moira…etc…
I get your point, but it also sucks because it was pretty core to her identity. Like a lot of people hate hack, but if sombra became, idk a support and hack reset your allies cooldowns, her existing playerbase would be right to complain and hate what was done to her.
I think she should still be able to freeze players but only their bottom halves rendering them immobile. So kind of like it was in OW1 but they can still attack and use abilities.
I think the problem is that although freeze was annoying, freeze was the entire identity of the character. Removing Mei’s freeze is like removing Pharah’s ability to fly. Pharah’s flight is definitely annoying in many situations and maybe the game would be better without it.
But it’s not the same character anymore.
As a Mei fan I get why freeze was removed with all the other CC nerfs too. But she does seem rather weak now. I have trouble reliably dealing with most other heroes in close quarters. I don’t think her primary fire dmg
should be buffed to make her just another Symmetra / Reaper either though. Honestly I just wish her primary worked closer to how it used to. Maybe start the movement debuff at say -25% and cap it at -75-90% or something.
Her ice wall could also use some changes. The more open maps make it very unreliable. Maybe increase the width by 1 block but put it on a longer cooldown?
This is only true if you play mei. If you don’t then she is a lot more fun without the freeze. I suspect there are a lot more people that don’t regularly play her than do, and in each game there are 5 people on the other team glad she no longer has it.
Right now does it do instantly slow and for Hammond is this an absolute nightmare. A single puff is enough to remove his increased speed.
What the devs should’ve done is have it built up to higher percentage and have it linger it longer. This way can she be a problem for flankers and still somewhat combo her icicle with the increased slow.
Personally, I prefer Mei having the increased DPS because it means you can actually kill things faster without requiring a headshot.
Mei froze a target in 1.5seconds at fastest and it secured 85.25 health. Landing a headshot took another 0.8sec ramp up time to fire the icicle. If you missed the headshot the target wasn’t dead. So, in best conditions you kill a target in 2.3seconds and is prone to missing the headshot due to knockback.
With having 100 DPS and instant 50% slow effect on primary fire you can track a target even more easily than ever before and kill them in 2seconds flat with virtually no room for error. All on top of having a pierce effect with 100 DPS that also slows multiple people on the enemy team instantly is really nice when you can get people clumped up in closed spaces.
Without a second tank on the team to get in the way not dying to Mei’s primary fire or swooping in to try saving someone I’m like having the best win rate I ever had with Mei now. A single wall can decimate tank players more readily than other DPS picks from removing a tanks supportive healin LoS and any damage that might kill a threat during that itme.
I prefer the freeze them, stare them right in the eye, then blast an icicle through their head, it is what made Mei a meme queen and why people fell in love with her.
it goes back to that ‘‘Spirit and flair’’ Jeff used to talk about.
As I said in the original post at least they haven’t ruined her to the same kind of level they ruined Symmetra. I mean I am still playing Mei, Symm I haven’t touched in 4 years since they deleted her.
Well, too bad. She was the definition of unfun to play against.
A little? A little annoying? If I saw her I had to switch to Zarya or Orisa to even have a chance of surviving getting walled off and 1v3’d while frozen.
No. No, it is NOT a small price to pay just so she’s fun to play for you. Why don’t we bring flahbang and turret Bastion then?
I’ve seen people all over the place saying Rein is boring cause he’s just “rectangle man” and he’s still the most stimulating tank. Managing your shield, HP and moving forward is far from boring. Oh, but Mei doesn’t have a FREE CC on primary fire anymore? If that’s what you need to make a character “fun”, maybe that’s not a character problem.
I’m pretty sure you’re wrong. Majority of the playerbase isn’t Mei mains. Mercy’s mass rez also made her unique and that got removed. Sombra removing your abilities for like 3-4 seconds made her unique and that got removed. It was fun to be the anchor tank with Orisa on Illios well and her shield, but you don’t see me complaining it’s gone.
Then why do you keep saying it’s what made her fun?
No. You win the game by pushing/stopping the payload or captruing/defending the point. The whole enemy team can be full HP and you can still win. Getting highest number of kills is NOT the win condition in any mode outside of deathmatch. It’s because of this logic that I’ve lost so many games. We get the payload/objective, everyone runs off staggers deaths and now the enemy can freely roll forward.
This is the real problem. Give her a mini hack that last 0.1 seconds on a charge or something so she keeps utility. Give her the ability to ice skate like the creator card that one time. Do something, you can’t just remove the main gimmick of a hero (freeze), destroy the other reason you play the hero (her wall) and replace it with meh damage. She is a utility hero that has had her utility deleted.
Gonna disagree. The fact that her beam deals so much damage now is a good trade-off. Sometimes it feels like you can just walk through the enemy team and everything dies.
Mei’s freeze was annoying as hell, but I think that now that McCowboy and Brigitte lost their stun someone should still have hard cc to counter mobility, and Mei fits that niche.
