I agree completely with this. 90% of everything that has been said in this entire thread, including the things I’ve written have been nothing more than subjective opinions and I’m puzzled that people have even thought otherwise in the first place…
Wrong. I’m talking about her primary fire, Ice Block and Ultimate up to an extent.
Agreed and despite popular belief, as long as such mechanics are not of a “low skill = high reward” nature, I have zero problems with them.
I don’t see in any way how Mei’s primary fire requires more ““accuracy”” than Brigitte’s Shield Bash for example, which she also has to ““aim”” towards the general direction of the enemy, but anyways.
I disagree with almost everything here. Mei is the only hero in the entire game that has such strong CC on her primary fire, first of all. The range is very decent and while it certainly takes a bit to freeze your enemy, the huge toll Freeze has on their speed, along with Mei’s ability to multi - Freeze people more than make up for this hindrance. As for what you said about mobility countering this mechanic, well I’m sorry but hasn’t it always been that Mei due to her primary fire actually counters high - mobility heroes in the first place??
Even more importantly though, I would like to touch onto what you said about out - damaging Mei when she tries to Freeze you and how that leads to me blaming the hero for being an example of bad game design in general.
Basically, Mei once again has one of the absolute best “get - out - of - jail”/escape abilities in the entire game, her Ice Block, which therefore makes it extremely hard for low/mid - ranked players especially to frighten a Mei trying to Freeze them by just trying to out - damage her.
Additionally, I would like to say that I actually find it more than ironic to blame players for ““messing up and rightfully dying to Mei”” when Mei herself has Ice Block to get her out of any tough situation that she created with her mistakes… Couple that with others telling Tank players to ““stay away from Mei if you don’t want to get killed””, when the main reason the Tank role exists is to get close to the enemy, brawl and take space and just another fundamental design problem with Mei’s kit is exposed…
I agree with all of this.
Mei was good in low/mid ranks for 2 years and mediocre at best in high ranks. If I do remember correctly, she did receive significant buffs that actually made her even stronger in low/mid ranks and actually META in OWL (when played with Reaper especially) and she, for once, became pretty strong in high ranks as well.
The above situation went on for months, until she was rightfully nerfed of course.
Nope, nothing I’ve said is ludicrous just because you happen to disagree with it. Once again, my balance philosophy is that I personally believe that heroes as frustrating to play against, badly - designed and “low skill - high reward” as Mei, Bastion, etc. shouldn’t be strong and especially not META in this game (and I don’t think the devs’ stance differs so much as well based on how they’ve been treating such heroes in the past)…
Either such heroes will have to receive soft/total reworks, or they’ll have to receive major value mitigations in their kits via buffs and compensation nerfs, so that their problematic mechanics are either removed or are made less persistent respectively… Then, if necessary, they can be buffed.
