Mei as a Tank OPINIONS

Who cares about OWL? Stop trying to get blizzard to balance around something that effects a fraction of a percent of the population, and probably wont even be around much longer.

I think it is sad that you gotta work around it. The situation is just so stupid.

But it is what it is, so lets move her.

Yes, that is what we are trying to do.

OWL is successful enough for their continual investment. As much as I don’t really like it and my games are balanced around it. It needs to be balanced to be good watchable content for its viewers.

We could start by just tearing down double barrier to begin with. Reduce Sigma’s barrier by 30%, Rein’s by 50% and buff the recharge rate accordingly.

Make them think about using it, and not just dropping it down to soak everything.

And then everything dies. And now we’re at another extreme which people will complain about.

Making Tanks less popular isn’t really a great idea when queue times are so high.

All these crying about mei threads and lets be stupid and move her to tank role threads are actually just lets remove mei from OWL threads.

We all know it, stop it, it is getting pathetic.

What part of a bunch of the Mei mains are for moving her don’t you get

There is also “I’d like to avoid DPS queue times” AND honestly, she is more tank than DPS.

Also Grey and I are pretty serious about trying to fix DPS queue times as well…

Srsly.

Trashtier DPS with a 10 minute queue time

Or

Midtier Offtank with a 30sec queue time

Kind of a no-brainer which one is better.

Mei is neither a tank nor a dps, she doesnt fit either role.

That is the problem, not mei.

No. I don’t watch overwatch league. I just think she better suits the tank role. The OWL point is a point in its favour (though minor). Mei as a tank could work with little effort and personally I enjoy her and having a 2nd tank I enjoy would be fun. She’d also have interesting synergies with the tanks like Rein Mei or Zarya mei.

No it doesn’t. We can play Dive, or 3-4 dps comps with Hammond with no barrier.

They’re not needed and nor should they be. It’s really really bad that they are presently.

You know what’s “oppressive” and “feels bad to play against” in this game? When your other DPS is throwing on Genji, so you go Bastion to try to take down Sigma and Rein’s barrier; and what happens? Barriers go down, Sigma soaks with Grasp, then the first barrier is back up ready again.

That my friend is bovine excrement of the highest order.

It’s something the game does not need to exist.

And we need more tanks, and with minimal changes we could HAVE another tank… so…

If her being a hybrid is a problem, then we can have a solution.

No, and making the game even more dependent on walls and barriers by assuming we always want one isn’t good for anyone.

You’d get more people playing tank by letting no-barrier comps actually function. You can see that by the simple fact no one wants to play the damn things.

Nobody would play mei as a tank, and your team would throw a absolute fit if you did.

These days is rein or throwing, and mei would get you more flack than roadhog.

We need more tanks, and we need someone other than blizzard making them. Their success rate post launch is an amazing 0%.

Barriers are a necessity. Not to win. But in the game. having a means that blocks damage is a good tanking ability. It’s also easy. I don’t want all my tanks to be difficult to get value out of because that makes them harder to enjoy.
REin’s barrier is too strong. Orisa’s needs a buff. Sigma’s needs a nerf (he doesn’t need grasp and the second strongest barrier)

They shouldn’t be. It’s really that uncomplicated.

No functional utility, whether it’s a barrier, DM, Bionade, Immortality field, whatever, should be a necessity in the game.

I think it’s wrong to think that if barriers get weaker, that the issues of snipers, bionade, earthshatter, and Ult charge feeding will go away.

And that the changes needed to make those into non-issues would rip the game apart.

If you make barriers weaker, without addressing those issues, you just reinforce the need for doublebarrier.

Stop thinking of barriers as any different to any other kind of utility. They’re not and nor should they be.

All those things can be countered by range, positioning, mobility and so on. We’ve already seen it happen.

Nothing is a necessary mechanic. But a barrier is a healthy one for the games. Having the means to block damage is good. it is a counter. It is not the bane of the game.
