Many people like yourself have experienced the “no footsteps” Reaper issue, here’s one such video of the problem:

In the killcam he even says “Hi!” from point blank behind Widow before killing her, and you don’t even hear it.

It’s funny because in their original GDC video the Overwatch sound designers stated specifically that Reapers flank killing out of nowhere was a huge problem and that they designed the sound system specifically to address the issue… Guess something’s gone wrong in the system.

Thanks so much for sharing your videos! How strange, so the audio is lost in-game but when replayed in highlight the sound FX come back, how bizarre. I have level 3 so I’ll repost these so it’s easier for others to playback:

For a while I’ve been playing Mcree a lot and when I’m in the training room with the bots the head shot sound sometime happens sometimes you only see the mark that indicated that you hit the target but not sound cue whatsoever. Is the same when collecting health packs and in game is almost a nightmare because you barely hear enemies approaching before you can react and that is the best case when you do.

Someone in General Discussion just made a thread about the audio cutoff issues they’re experiencing:

Can we acknowledge there are severe audio problems in the game?

I don’t hear ults going off, I don’t hear getting hacked, I don’t hear getting trapped (as Wrecking Ball at least). How can this bugfest continue? How can this game after 3 years have launch bugs still existing, and new bugs not squashed before getting to the live client?

Something wrong with audio

Sound bug. Not hearing *as many* things as I should be

I’m not getting the “ting” sound most of the time I get hitmarkers I cant hear Sombra hacking me Music is intermitant footsteps are quiet/silent. It’s like the number of sounds that can be mixed simoutanousely has been decreased. There’s also a slight delay before they’ll play at all. It makes the game seem really strange not to have all these audio queues.

Audio/ voice line problems

The past few weeks I’ve noticed voice lines not working consistently. Mostly the cosmetic one’s like “winky face” will not always work. The global lines like “group up” have the same issue and sometimes when it does work, it doesn’t say it in team chat. I also don’t hear Sombra hacking or Torb hammering his turret sometimes.

Thanks a lot for catching and posting these, Muf, really helps to keep this issue bumped. I’ve added these to the (growing) master list of such threads in my second post and contacted the authors of those threads to share their experiences or videos here if possible. Hopefully the continued push against this issue will make it a higher priority for the devs.

We cant forget that a lot of times you cant hear pharah flying above you head.

You only hear her when she is shooting the rockets.

Same with reaper, you only hear him when he shoot

When i’m in a game I can hear all of the other game sound effects fine but the voice chat doesn’t register. I have tested my mic and looked at my settings but the issue still persists. If I can’t communicate with my team then i’m going to end up losing a lot of games

Audio Directional Bug?

So, I don’t believe this is my headset as it works fine just about in any other game. However, lately in my OW matches I’ve noticed I’ve been missing many sound cues if I whip my mouse around while playing, more specifically if I’m just looking anywhere else other than where the sound is coming from, it kinda just goes dead silent. I found a fix for my sound issues. Turning OFF both LIMIT CLIENT SEND RATE and LIMIT SERVER SEND RATE.

In game sound bug

when someone attacking from behind or shooting at you the sound of the attack goes off cant hear the enemy and even when enemy ult behind you the sound becomes so low pitch cant hear their ult or their ult is almost about to finish all this big bug issue happen after the new patch please fix this big bug issue blizzard thanks.

No sound when ults are activated

I’ve noticed lately that sometimes ultimate abilities will be activated but no voice line will be announced. I’ve had this happen with a friendly Roadhog that I ice walled because I didn’t hear his ultimate, and just now an enemy Soldier 76 that ulted and killed me because I ran out into the open since I never heard his ultimate line.

No audio heard for enemy ultimates

This is not a consistent issue but it happens frequently enough to me and i’m out of ideas. I’ve recorded footage where it clearly is not being picked up. How can i fix this? This is causing me huge problems in competitive.
