Matchmaking is a nuisance!

Its weird seeing some people complaining about forced wins and losses and others complaining they lose too much

MM used to function in OW1. No, it wasn’t perfect, but it was good enough. It took years, but they got there long before maintenance mode began.

Even with the rank reset in S1 OW2, the MM was still OK despite this as it kept MMR the same; it was annoying to get to your rank as a result since the ranking system had been changed in a way such that it didn’t put you up to where your MMR was properly, but MM worked…

and then a ton of people (especially supports) left when [the honeymoon period ended] it was realised that 5v5 was a huge downgrade, and the queue times shot up. Within a few days, queue times became instant for all roles and matchmaking was shot, and has been ever since.

I think you missed the point of my post.

MM can only do so much for game quality. Look at ranked, it can create a match of 10 people all of the same rank/skill. Yet that match can be utter garbage. 1 round might have team A stomp team B, Round 2 might be a close match, and round 3 might be team B stomping team A.

All the same people in each round, but vastly different types of games. The MM created a blanced game based on skill/rank, but that doesnt mean a matches quality will be good.

Look at me for example, I’m in plat, but lets say i decied to play widow, im terrible at her, maybe silver level with her. The MM thinks im plat, but my team got a silver level widow on their team.

Emotions also play a factor, if your on a loss streak you might get angry and make more mistakes, compared to a clear minded player.

The MM has no way to know or factor that is.

People love to blame MM for these types of games, but

Look at 5v5, that resulted in games becoming more stompy, that has nothing to do with MM. Or look at push gamemode, that gamemode gives a advantage to the team that pushes it first. That is game design, not MM.

MM can only do so much, and what the forum asks for quite often is something MM cant fix.

But it should EXACTLY not be a 50/50 if there were any competitive integrity. At a lower level you should be able to, with your skill being the same, to have an easier match, right?

I understand your skepticism. I too had never seen that in 8 years of OW… Until that one fateful day when I duo queued with my brother… easily carrying him into high gold.

He then played by himself losing 26 games in a row.

group queues ruin matchmaking. there is no solution unless you have a huge player base. just accept that MM will not be good
