Matchmaker is still hot garbage

I think that’s what that stupid hero challenges training mode was for, but that was so poorly done that it was pointless.

Unlikely. I think they had the intention of doing these setups and budgeted for it years ago with OW2. They never had any intention of building stand-alone tutorials, and even if they did, they probably would’ve packaged it with the PvE campaign, and we know how that turned out.

At this point - given how old the game is and its declining population, it may already be too late to do anything about it. Overwatch 3 would be the only window where they would be able to do something about it; and that would largely depend on what they’re planning.

At some point, the next frontier of online shooter monetization will be monthly subscriptions, and they have AI models run through your games and point out helpful information. Microsoft could be a leader in that of course, but I have zero confidence in Microsoft gaming, so it’ll probably be someone else.

Yeah its dogs’it. Put all that effort into new game modes and they cant fix the fundamental issue that breaks the game. This dev team needs to be fired, starting with the useless Aaron Keller.

Nah, there’s no way that’s going to happen.

It’ll be more research into addictive behavior and crafting games around that.

Nothing but useless stubborn players picking the wrong heroes causing stomp games.

It’s has been 4 years we have been complaining about MM since ow2 launch and it’s awful and nothing has been done to improve and i doubt they will improve but hey do u want more shop skins?. We can manufacture those instead and feed u junk and u pay for it ok?.

I installed a 5gb 24 year old FPS last night and got better matchups on a first come first serve basis than I have since OW2 was released.

Please tell me one reason to play OW over anything else assign from misguided nostalgia or projecting that one of these CG animated waifus are part of my personality and it makes me more interesting or attractive.

That is still alive?. I thought that send to grave.

Yea, for what it is. Steam charts saying in the last 24hr the peak players logged in was over 12,000.

Have you tried comp? I started it in S1 when I was brand new. My thinking was that the matches were more balanced, so I could improve. I still think it’s better for me to play in order to improve. In QP I focus on how well I do and don’t worry about wins and losses. It does seem to help. I ranked up after going on break from comp in S9. Shot up pretty far.

Matchmaker’s been awful for years. Used to be you’d solo queue, you’d get match with others who are solo queued. Maybe two who are grouped together. Now you get matched with groups who are 3, 4, or 5 stacked.

I only play comp tbh, I just played QP cause it was required.

TL;DR:My experience in ranked so far hasn’t been great in terms of matchmaking. I’m having a lot more fun in Stadium, but even there, team balance is often all over the place.
Solo queue, especially when you’re “new”, is pretty rough.

If u want to read here's my experience

When I first got into OW2, I did my placements with a friend. I’m not ashamed to say that even though I came from Apex where I was Diamond/Master, my first rank here was Bronze.
It was the end of the season, so I didn’t really get much of a chance to climb, and honestly, I found myself in a whole new circle of hell where most of the opponents were clearly smurfs.
Some of them ended up on my team too, of course. And I ran into a lot of people throwing games on purpose to derank.
Watching your tank purposely yeet themselves off the map is one of those things that just leaves a bad taste in your mouth when all you wanna do is enjoy the match, win or lose.

Next season, my friend quit and I was on my own. After a lot of rough games, I managed to climb from Bronze up to Gold, where I’ve stayed.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m probably not good enough to go much higher — at the end of the day, you still need solid game sense, map knowledge, positioning, counters. Not having teammates who approach the game the same way you do definitely doesn’t help.

Then this season came along and brought Stadium. I’ve had the chance to play with and against way higher-level players. I’m currently Elite, and I often notice the comps are just totally unbalanced.
Sometimes I end up in a stacked team against super weak opponents, sometimes it’s the exact opposite.
Either way, it’s frustrating. You either stomp or get stomped. So far I’ve only had a handful of games that actually went all the way to the seventh round, and those were the real fun ones. ( I don’t even want to bring up all the matches where people leave in the first round, even when you’re winning. It’s just too depressing to even talk about. )

Playing against stronger players definitely helps you improve, and it is super fun, but even more so when your team’s actually doing their job. Don’t get me wrong tho, everyone has a bad game now and then. I make mistakes too, and I’m definitely not trying to act like I’m some kind of judge.
But there’s a big difference between making a mistake and just not knowing what to do at all, and that can be deadly when you’re up against a team that’s moving as one.
If there were proper matchmaking and balance all the time, this game would be a completely different experience for me.
Then again, maybe I shouldn’t expect too much. The obvious solution would be to find a group, but I’m a pretty introverted person and it’s hard for me to just approach random people.

Some comments need a special remark for sure, besides reading them

… ok, not to defend anything but … really?

You going to compare something without MM, to a game with MM and RQ implemented on it? With a full casual “not care” old game where everyone just shoots and holds corners?

How are you perceiving that “fairness” mate? by hitting tab and checking stats? watching how some people shoot or manage recoil?

Cmon now …

That was kind of the point.

I don’t know why you’re so frustrated. It’s not really a deep multi-faceted philosophical analysis.

To compare Apples to Lasagna? Oh ok.

Theres no frustration, and that’s the whole point.

Its like saying Hanzo is bad because you played Destiny2 Hunter and the rocket launcher is better than a bow. Like what?

1 thing has 3 layers of complexity, the other one 0.5.

The vibes that overwatch gives off is that their whole system is running on threads, ductape, elmers glue and crate paper,…

meaning their supposed match maker is just some Gateway 2000 (Think the old P5-166) dug out of an old broom closet server room from Microsoft and plugged into an old cisco cat5000 switch running some arbitrary code from an old coupon kiosk from a K-mart and they just plugged it in and left it.

Literally i can hear those old Quantum fireball 5400s “whirling” away with their unique shrill sound, and I can imagine in my head the little power supply just blowing loads of dust feathers everywhere. With some employee from the company having to wrap icepacks in towels and place them over this thing every 30 minutes just so it can build crummy matches.
