Each time you’re offered 3 possible candidates for the upcoming match. Some maps will definitely attract more attention than others like King’s Row, but even the unpopular maps are offered for consideration.
There’s even a chance, however small, that a map unpopular in the vote will be the map played.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this system at first. Would be simpler to make it so the popular map was always unanimous. But even the map you didn’t vote for, dislike gets some exposure. At least it’s available to be voted down.
That’s more variety than simply relying on the RNG to pick a map.
It’s exciting to see the stages before the game, adds to the anticipation.

That existed before…it was a higher chance actually
Variety can only decrease with voting in place….not sure how you can say otherwise…the only possible way to get more variety than RNG is if you literally forced every map to be played once before a map can appear again

i play on maps that get 1 vote more often than i play the one that has 11 votes

Maybe I’m wrong, and RNG is better. But at least with voting, I actually see the maps being considered. Maybe that’s enough for me.

you definitely don’t, lol
That’s not true. Actually, its statistically unlikely. So I guess its possible you’re telling the truth, but its so unlikely, its close to impossible.
Actually is the way around
I have never played King’s Row so much
And in the other hand, I can’t recall last time I saw Antartica Peninsula or Suravasa

I dunno that being forced to play the same map twice in a row is variety
Factually false.
I’ve given map bans a chance (8-10 matches) and I got Flashpoint once, and KOTH once, the rest was only Hybrid and Escort (not even more recent maps, only those from 2016-2019).
Yeah, seeing toxic players that would often trash talk in chat have power over me and dictating what I am allowed or not allowed to play sure is a treat
…
Map voting isn’t democracy 'cause real democracy also pays attention to the minority. People not liking Escort and Hybrid are ignored, forced to play those maps and hardly ever (if ever) get the chance to play their favorite game modes.
Hard pass for me and I hope an extra QP lobby without map / content bans is getting added soon.
Not playing QP in the meantime, can’t be bothered if this penalizes queue times in the long run (if other players stop playing QP was well).
We’ve been patient with more than enough restrictions since 2019. At some point, enough is enough. Map bans is what did it for me. I’ve had enough. Enough (one more time).
sometimes I pick a middle map with 0 votes just because I don’t want the map after it to win
That’s explicitly what the current system does lol

Just no, when they are available people only vote escort and hybrid, I rarely get other maps and i’ve played quite a bit already, lvl 55 battlepass. Map voting is clearly bad for variety, quickplay was better before this update

Map voting is strictly less variety
It just means you’ll see much less of flashpoint and clash since they have the least maps and the mode no longer has an equal chance of being selected like before
I wasn’t either, but actually I’ve been really enjoying it.

i usually dont participate since im tabbed out and i missed the voting but if im paying attention i pick the most popular map first then right away pick the map no one voted for just so i can see if i win the rng luck draw
sometimes i do … i mean i dont care which map i get so might as well make all three a possibility and its cool if your the only vote and win
yea im a royal pain hehe
actually if i had one wish its if they put 2cp back into the rotation with this map voting. i mean why not? now those maps i would vote for since i havnt played them in forever. the assault mode queue in arcade is too long now
I’m still 50/50 on map voting. I think it leads to a lot of games being cancelled before a map is even chosen, I guess because players don’t see a map/mode they want to play available.
The CPU did a decent job of picking maps before. But maybe this way people will get to play maps and game modes they like best more often.
That’s not what’s actually happening. Previously we used to play all modes equally, and almost all maps equally. Now it’s mainly escort, hybrid, and sometimes control, with very specific maps that get picked in those modes.
So, there is less variety, and even when that variety happens, it happens in an infuriating way, where 9 players vote for King’s Row but the algorithm picks New Junk City anyway.
Variety happens by pissing off most players in the lobby.
This must be the worst possible implementation of a map selection system.

Tbf I haven’t played an exceptional amount. But almost every map vote I’ve gotten so far looked something like this; (push map), (flash/clash), havana. Obviously little to no one is voting for the first two.
I don’t hate havana that much but it’s been half of my matches played and I don’t like that at all. I wish there was more say in what three maps get picked.

That cancellation is a bug that probably gets fixed relatively soon.
Yes, that’s exactly what you would normally think. But this is a Blizzard game, they’ve overengineered it so that everyone feels happy at the same time. Some players believe they have complete freedom of choice, while at the same time, certain rules are in place to make sure that this “freedom” doesn’t get out of hand.
