Make profiles default to public without stats

As others have already stated the information being public wasn’t used for strategy. It was used to say “Why are you sucking so much on Roadhog? Reinhardt is your most played swap to him”
“Great a Mercy main is playing Widow gg boys time to throw” “Why is a support main playing dps” “of course we’re losing, a Genji main is playing tank.”

It happen way to frequently. If anyone dared pick something other than their most played hero people would use that as a source to be toxic.
There’s also privacy laws so I’m sure Blizzard chose to make people consent to having their info public.

I’ve seen GMS who didn’t know that it defaults to private please make it default public

Think that’s a bad example. People don’t want one tricking, so trying a different character in that role isn’t necessarily something someone would be angry over, especially if it works with their comp. It becomes a problem when either

  1. The hero is something they don’t remotely play AND it doesn’t fit the comp in any way possible. Example is dive. Literally no reason to play bap instead of their main hero, Mercy.
  2. If they were to main mercy and say they were playing soldier, which is something they’ve never played as well as it being a completely different role. This obviously isn’t going to be as big a problem anymore with role lock unless they continue to not fix the sr’s for other roles.

per the esteemed Aerocrypt, private profiles are the third best thing added to the game after maps and heroes

I hope they always remain private by default

I’m not against the option of having private profiles and all, but I believe everything would be easier if people didn’t care so much about what others think.

Let’s say someone claims, “you are a X one-trick” just because your most played hero is X. This is not accurate; the person who said this is just proving themselves to be dumb and obnoxious, because you have multiple hours on multiple different heroes. So why would anyone care about what this person says?

The best solution IMO is not caring about these people, and not going all the way to make your profile private just so you won’t deal with them.

Saying “just dont care” isnt a solution to people using information to harass others. You have to deal with the behavior.
It happened so often Blizzard dealt with it. Which goes back to my point that people proved they couldn’t handle that information.

But this is not a solution to this kind of behavior. A solution would be actually punishing people for being obnoxious and invasive.

By making your profile private, you are just doing everything you can to avoid these people to begin with. They still exist, and many probably still find different reasons to be toxic toward teammates.

The downside is that by making your profile private, you are also prohibiting reasonable or friendly people from taking a look into your stats. Many would like to see them with innocent curiosity.

…but, as I said before: I’m not “against” private profiles. I believe people should definitely have the right to make their own profile private for whatever reason they want it private.

They already have the right to change it to public so that doesn’t matter does it?

Make it public if you want. Nothing is stopping you. If the majority keep it private then that shows they want it private in the first place.

My active profile (PSN) is public and has always been. I never even once considered making it private.

But, yeah. You got a point. :~

Some people don’t even aware that it’s private.

TBH, If I see a person with a private profile, I automatically think they are a noob, boosted, terrible, and toxic all at the same time.

Why? So people can flame me for playing ana when i have x amount of hours on mercy? No thnx

then they can switch it back to full private if they so desire

This causes more toxicity than everything you mentioned. No one bothers digging through stats unless they already have a problem with you.

Well, my profile is private. Do I seem like a terrible, boosted, toxic player?

I dont know. You didnt insult me, so probably not.

avoid toxicity? What do you even mean? if i que as healer because i’m good at it, i’d want the guy who autopicked widow to at least be good too and not drag my personal experience of the game down because they wanna f’ around on widow in comp and drag a$.$ with missed shots left and right

Honestly there’s no point now, when people go into season 18 they should be roughly placed where they’re suppose to be in a given role so using profiles for team building is just asking a stranger to access you better than you can access yourself.

Data regulations and laws n stuff.

Data is protected by Default unless specifically opted in by the customer.

I just said make it private in reply to this comment:

OP wanted a limited form of a public profile to be the default option, someone said people might be toxic just off of the most played heroes, and I replied with:

That’s why they added private profiles, I was just suggesting at that point they should use it.

No need to be so hostile, dude.
