He asked a streamer what she believed Echo would be and then went on to talk about how they design heroes to look like their roles so that players can see it and get an idea of what type of playstyle to expect.
I feel like she could be a low health, high utility Tank or a shield support. Would love if she had flight and could be the first actual flying tank!
I really hope Echo is a tank. It would make her that much more unique.

From the cinematic, she’s the same height as Mcree (who isn’t very tall in game), much slimmer, has a very ethereal, aerial, petite angel design about her (similar to Mercy). I mean, she could be a tank, but that’d be akin to making Mercy a tank while keeping her same character model and design. Doesn’t really make sense visually.

I actually could see her as the BlizzCon hero especially because she was initially introduced at BlizzCon. It would not surprise me if Blizz started using the 3 heroes a year as the driving forces behind the lore movement. Baptiste is likely to be involved in the Archives event, hero 31 could be involved in another portion of the plot and Echo would further the McCree/Ashe plot line.
Because if she was a tank I probably still wouldn’t play her. There are enough tanks that subvert expectations, I want heroes that look, feel, act, and play tough; not another tank that feels like a support but with a barrier instead of healing.
Some people won’t play tanks period lol. I really have to wonder how many people would jump on it if there were a variety of main tanks to play. I mean… how much Wrecking Ball did we really see, even the week of his release?

I dunno. Personally, im probably done with tanks myself. My favourites haven’t been viable in a year, and its got the most negatives out of all the roles.
The only tanks I like are DVa and Orisa. But DVa is not a main tank (and is like the most played off tank so not like I’d get to pick her anyway when filling) and Orisa is… well, I get yelled at a lot when I pick Orisa…
I can’t play D.va, she gives me headaches. My favourite is Roadhog, but i’ve never had him be meta and since brig he hasn’t been viable. Winston is too easy to counter now.
Hammond is the same. Zarya is ok but she’s the only one, and don’t get me started on Reinhardt. What a chore its become.
Screw that, why tank when i could one-trick Zen OR Lucio? If Baptiste is a main healer i can manage to play then i’ll have four supports in my hero pool and never need to touch a tank ever again, its just not worth it.
Worst part is that the forums have turned against tanks. Im not sticking around just to get hit with another round of blanket nerfs or see more hard counters get added. Ya’ll want Rein’s pickrate down so much? Fine. Get yourself a new shield.
you know there is more after 30 then just 31. jeff said she won’t be the next hero and needs a little more story. so i do think that she will be hero 33-36, unless she gets some more story soon.
