Lootbox details from Gavin

• Lootboxes will not be sold, they are purely a reward system in the FREE battle pass and/or weekly rewards section

• They are able to pull ANY Shop cosmetics, aside from ones being sold in the current season

• No more duplicate items. if you were going to get a duplicate, it will re-roll the cosmetics to give you something different

• If you don’t get any legendary skins after 20, you’ll be guaranteed one in the next box

didn’t mind dups in OW1 you just got OW coins and could buy what ever you wanted with it (at the end most players had all the skins and getting dups meant you could buy new ones the moment they came out)

so not much has changed, just a bit more random without dups turning into curency.

the pitty mechanic sounds like a nice adition :muscle:

I believe the pitty mechanic was in OW1 as well, they just didn’t talk about it much

If all of this is true… I am really astonished by Blizzard being THAT pro-consumerist

could be  imho i just found the lootboxes pretty generous seeing i could only get the free ones. and at the start of OW2 i had pretty much all the skins from OW1 (except the OWL ones wich i don’t care for and voicelines, avatars, etc. wich i can now still unlock with the coin i took with me and the new ones i earn)

Now it makes sense that they stated to bring out recolors every season… at least you have the chance to gain crazy good skins again.

It is kinda funny because there’s like 3 cat Sombra recolors now? I think? Several duplicates of some others too lol

I dunno why people are fearmongering on possibly the best reward system we’ve gotten since this mess hit “early access”.

“People like crap-posting” is my guess.

Lootboxes possibly containing non-credit stuff (OW1 skins, basic recolours, etc.) was the most surprising part of the showcase to me. Good stuff.

If they readd flex queue lootbox rewards I’ll get to make people miserable playing mauga AND get rewarded for doing so! LFG!!

Yeah it was in OW1 as well…though I believe it was better odds before….i used to log my loot boxes on here and I would almost always get one every 13 or so boxes (this isn’t a complaint)

Thanks to lootboxes, I had all skins in OW1 without spending a dollar on the game.
Great they are returning, even if in a limited way.

When to lootboxes return? Season 15 or 16?

You did spend a lot of dollars when buying the game.
That was the key difference.

15, next one.

Yes, I think we can get 10 boxes a week from weeklies. So that’s 20 in 2 weeks or a legendary every 2 weeks with the worst luck. Plus with premium pass 3 legendary lootboxes. Assuming a season is 8-10 weeks, that would be 7-8 legendary skins a season, or 5-6 for people who don’t buy the bpass.

I assume people can get ow1 legendary in them, but if there is no duplicates, many of us already have those. So if we can get up to 8 legendary shop skins a season, oh boy is that a lot compared to now.

Not a lot, really. In my country is was like 10 or 20 bucks. And I get like 100 or so skins just by playing.
In OW2 for the same money I can barely buy 1 good skin.

It’s still more then 0, that was my point.
It’s just a different buisness model.

Gasp, Blizzard finally retooling their monetization/reward system to be more player-friendly?

Damn, never thought I’d see the day.
