And you think this new monetization model will make the game better?
Yes, only question would be âfor whoâ.
Itâs a tired argument. Yes. Millions of dollars running through a game usually makes it better.
Genshin Impact
League of Legends
Valorant
MultiVersus
Dota2
Fall Guys
CS:GO
Apex Legends
GTA V
Lost Ark
TF2
Fortnite
Dead by Daylight
COD: Warzone
Teamfight Tactics
Hearthstone
the list goes on forever.
What do these all have in common? Theyâre the most popular games, and they all have the money for it from âmicrotransactionsâ.
These games have in common, that first they become popular, and then they introduce monetisation. Not in opposite order.
First you make sure, that players stay in your game, then you start extracting money from them. While OW2 seems to be doing it in wrong order - they didnât even get new players yet, and already ask, if people will spend up to $40 for single skin.
False. Not every skin
About 1300 skins arent available just from playing
Blizzard shareholders asking that question to Blizz executives.
Overwatch was already popular. I donât know what you mean, and your whole order thing is a blatant lie. Genshin has always been a gacha. MultiVersus, Valorant, Apex, GTAV, Lost Ark, Fortnite, TFT, and I assume Hearthstone all launched with MTX.
If you meant TF2 - no, it didnât launch with MTX. Neither did GTA V.
GTA Online launched with shark cards. No, I donât mean TF2, I mean Teamfight Tactics, often referred to as TFT, that launched with MTX.
My order still stands, though - first you gain playerbase, then you introduce MTX. As you want players to stick with game enough, so you asking money wonât make them change their mind.
The people that buy those skins spend way more on these games than the âprestigiousâ individuals on the forums that do nothing but complain all day. Later nerds.
OK
About Overwatch being popular - it bleeds players like crazy, having rather poor retention of playerbase. Lack of interest suggests, that we almost ran out of players, that didnât try it at least once.
Sorry which one of those games are you saying is good? I see GTA5 on there
And, btw, MTX in GTA:Online are mostly a failure - cheaters constantly circumvent anticheat defenses and give away money.
When R* tried to make MTX more popular, it caused spike in money cheats.
Iâm confused because Iâve just given plenty of examples of games that launched with MTX, and even so Overwatch is already popular so itâd be following your order. You also have zero evidence to suggest that Overwatch is bleeding players.
This is a blatant lie. You can google their earnings. Itâs public. They make double digit millions a week from GTA V.
Most of those didnât have MTX at the start, I donât know why you include Dead by Daylight, when it didnât have anything like that at first.
Still a failure. They even had to make earning money ingame easier in last update, even while it was supposed to be way to push people towards MTX.
If pulling in millions of dollars a week is a failure, I donât know why Iâm having a conversation with you. Weâre arguing non facts at this point.
f2p, monetization, and paid cosmetics wonât make the game better but they can definitely make the game worse.
Look at Halo Infinite. Comparing something like Apex or Valorant is a bit different as well.
From my understanding Valorant at least had something to offer to compensate for the high priced skins in the form of a high end matchmaking system (ping rate and server quality at the very least), system accessibility, and anti cheat.
While Apex was simply made to feel really good, later to be monetized with an emphasis on the battlepass.
Halo Infinite went hard into fomo, high skin prices, and dailys to the point that it overshadowed much of the other content. Then they proceeded to fall behind in providing the fixes needed to make the game enjoyable.
Most people playing Overwatch now are either doing so casually for skins or to grind ladder. Monetizing one of the few reasons casual players play would be a huge mistake.
Blizzard is really putting the cart before the horse bringing up skins right now. Overwatch 2 has nothing new to put itself above competitors. In fact, it seems that blizzard is actually very behind on the current competitive trends and has regressed in at least two ways i can think of. 1 being the removal of Overwatch Leagues replay catalogue and 2 being Diablos monetization.
Yes, it is a failure for them. And, personally, I donât know a single person buying shark cards, but know enough using money cheats.
