Nah response time isn’t an issue anymore. Main drawback of wireless mice is that the battery will degrade much faster than a cord unless you are unplugging and re-plugging the wires mouse often which you shouldn’t be unless it’s like one you use in a travel setup. And you have to remember to charge it.
There is some tradeoff between the benefits of a lightweight mouse (speed, precision, dexterity, agility, etc.) and the the benefits of a heavier mouse (mainly stability), but generally speaking the aim community agrees that lighter is optimal. I am grandmaster in Aimlabs and so I’m pretty plugged into that community, and we generally agree (as much as any one community can agree on anything, which is never really gonna be 100%) that the stability you sacrifice with a lighter mouse can be made up for with good mouse control, which is a skill that can be honed. The agility and dexterity that you lose with a heavy mouse is difficult to just make up for, even with excellent mouse control.
And before anybody says it, no… it’s not a strength thing. I am a power lifter myself. It’s not about if you’re strong enough to move around a 100g mouse fast enough or not. It’s just simply going to be easier and quicker to stop and start a 40g mouse vs. a 100g mouse and it’s literally that simple. I used a 100g+ mouse as my main for years and years, and the moment I got a lighter mouse it was an instant improvement. Sure, there was some shakiness in my aim I had to iron out, but again, you learn to control it over time.
Edit: I forgot to mention that lightweight mice are better for long term wrist health as well, especially if you play with a higher sensitivity. Very important to note.
Edit 2: I also want to clarify that I’m not saying there isn’t a middle ground here. A lot of people are gonna have that sweet spot of “I like the blend of control and agility I get at about 60g”, for example. Still the same rules apply, and you could go lighter than that and work on your control.
Edit 3: A user below me pointed out the “Shape is king” argument below, and I feel I should say that it is very important. I do feel it is a little overstated (especially in r/mousereviews) as you’d be surprised how well you can adapt to a given mouse shape, and also a perfectly shaped mouse that weighs 300g is not gonna a be good, but it is definitely one of (if not the most) important factors when deciding on a mouse, assuming everything else is what you need.
At the end of the day people like to simplify things by saying things like “shape is king”, because it makes your decisions easier and makes it so you don’t have to give things as much thought, but you should consider all factors when making a decision on a mouse. Here are some examples (not a comprehensive list) of things to consider:
How is the weight?
Does it have the features you would want? Is the size going to be good for your hand size? (E.g. Is the mouse going to be too wide or narrow for you?)
Are the buttons too high or low, or too light or heavy (different than the mouse weight)?
What kind of surface are you playing on, and how much static friction does it have?
What kind of material are the skates? Are they rounded?
How much surface area do the skates take up?
Are there aftermarket skates for that mouse available?
What coating does the mouse have?
Does it need grip tape? Does it come with it?
Is it wired or wireless?
What is the polling rate? Does it matter to you?
What kind of grip style does this mouse best suit?
Is the mouse using a modern sensor that is considered virtually “flawless”?
What is your preferred game?
Whats your ideal cm/360 settings?
Etc.
Shape + Grip Style e.g. ( Claw , Palm or Fingertip ) > Weight
There is a reason why most competitive fps games like OW2, Val & Cs2 top mouse is the Logitech GPro X Superlight ( 63g) and not something like a finalmouse ultralight x (38g) or starlight 12 (46g) ( both are in medium size, roughly the same size as the GProX Superlight ) due to its shape and weight being right for most players
I recommend posting this onto the r/mousereview over on reddit for more answers since those people are mice enthusiasts and know a lot more than us OW gamers imo and Go into your local Computer store like micro center or wherever and try out the various mice if they have them on display
There is no 1 size fits all gaming mouse
anything that minimizes friction is faster so → light.
Ew I can’t stand heavy mice. Once I went ultra light I can’t go back. The heaviest mouse I will use is 65g. My main is 55g.
It is preference but for 99.9% of people a lighter mouse will be better
I use G Pro Superlight with a Qck mousepad might change to the G640 mousepad though.

Does yours… randomly activate the middle mouse scroll for no reason? I have abilities bound to scroll up/down (like whipshot for Brig, for example) and at least once a game it will just randomly go off all on its own lol. It doesn’t bug me except it puts whatever on cooldown and messes with my whipshot accuracy stat.
I’m wondering if it’s a problem with the Viper mini, or a problem with mine, specifically. Aka do I want to replace it with another mini once I get aggravated at it enough or do I want to try another mouse?
I have an older desk with a keyboard tray so with my wired mouse the wire hangs down the back of the tray. Doesn’t get in the way at all, plus Razer cords are lightweight and cloth so they have very little drag. And if I didn’t have a keyboard tray, the Black Widow keyboard also has a spot for you to thread your mouse cord through so it’s not in the way.
cords still have a pivot point. Even without drag you are experiencing pulling forces.
With that said it is a matter of getting used to it, though switching from wired to wireless feels like just have been freed from chains or something.
I’ve owned numerous high end mice over the years from Razer, Logitech, Steelseries, etc. Right now I’m on a heavier mouse, but it used to be < 80grams.
My current favorite mouse is a Logitech G502X Plus mouse. Weight is 110g on the postal scale after charging puck, wireless dongle, and various grip tapes are installed. I run it fully wireless on a Logitech Powerplay mousepad with a Glorious 18x16 top layer to provide extra space for low-DPI aiming. The mouse has not touched any wire for the last 2+ years since it constantly charges on the Powerplay underneath the Glorious mouse pad. The G502X’s opto-mechanical switches also have very fast actuation times and will outlast conventional switches.
Its predecessor was a Logitech G-Pro Shroud edition, but the G502’s slightly heavier weight provided better stability when needing precision shots vs. wild flicks. The G502X’s ergonomics are superb – I can play marathon gaming sessions with very little hand fatigue given its great ergo shape. This is something that the G-Pro could not match.
hmm nah but i did have that problem with other mice in the past. i use to like the razer mmo type mouse back in the day with the programmable 10 buttons on the side. too heavy a mouse for a fps tho so i never used it for this game. used it for world of warcraft for the longest time. i would re-buy them tho since something would happen with them especially the left click always breaking… it was called razer naga if i remember
I mean to a point, yeah. My issue with wireless mice is that they almost always lose their connection to the dongle at the worst possible time, leading me to have to stand up in the middle of a competitive match and unplug it/plug it back in (or frantically try to plug the charging cord into the mouse), wasting a good 30-45 seconds, probably causing deaths (I main support) and getting myself reported.
I’ll stick with the reliability of my corded mice/keyboard/headset.
Yeah my boyfriend uses a naga for MMOs and then swaps to a more lightweight mouse for other games. We’re both Razer enthusiasts, but he’s using a Steel Series right now.
To me that sounds like you were using really bad mice. I have my own issues with my mouse but it’s never disconnected.
I find its better to have a heavyer mouse if you use yiru wrist only
SteelSeries? I’d be more inclined to believe all my USB ports had gone bad.
My Xbox controller loses its connection a few times a day too. I actually think it has something to do with my apartment building because the walls are concrete and super thick and have some kind of metal in them that interferes with wireless signals—cell phone reception in here sucks too, and my PC is close to the wall. When I upgraded to new internet, I had to wire my router to my PC because when I had it wireless, I was getting 300-500 ms latency in Overwatch and my speeds were abysmal. As soon as I wired it I started getting 1000 mbps down and 200 mbps up.
So yeah, wired it is
My experience has been with Steelseries headsets and they’ve all broken. I wouldn’t touch that brand again, personally. Although you say your Xbox controller desyncs too? Sounds like it could be a problem with your USB host or Bluetooth or similar because that is unusual behaviour. Multiple devices from different manufacturers with similar issues implies the problem lies elsewhere.
Motherboard/drivers might want looking at?
TIL 6.4oz is 130g; but it doesn’t feel that heavy.
Conversions are weird.
Anyway, I don’t think I’ve used a lightweight mouse before, or if I have I don’t notice a difference.
Mouse around 80grams, below that it feels uncomfortable to me and feels like plastic.
It actually did this with my prior pc which was an entirely different board as well. I mentioned earlier I think it has to do with the materials used to construct my apartment building, it’s fairly old and the walls either have iron or some other type of ferrous material in them that interferes with wireless signals. Because of space constraints, my PC is about .75-3 feet from the wall (back usb ports to front usb ports) and I’m pretty sure that’s the cause, as my firestick never loses its connection to my router and is unwired—but the TV is forward on its stand and next to an in-apartment wall of different material that I know is much less thick as it is hollow behind it and is where the electrical wiring for the apartment is located.
Oh, for clarification I only use my xbox controller with my PC for racing games/fighting games, I only own a ps2 for console, and yes it still works
I have one, the Logitech Pro and I don’t see any difference between that and a wired mouse.
I’ve improved a lot since I got my wireless mouse. I don’t even play while my mouse is charging because the cord make my gameplay so much worse.
