tl;dr : I’m making this thread where I request the players to suggest content for Jetpack Cat. It’s not just a hero. It’s not just a cat. It’s a HERO CAT!
In the off case you haven’t noticed, Overwatch’s hero roster now features an adorable, meow-tastic feline. This is not just a new hero, though, it’s Overwatch’s urban legend. We’ve been joking about Mercy having a Jetpack Cat assistant for years, and Blizzard noticed and made Kitty real. This is how the Secret Cow Level came to be in Diablo: urban legend joked about by players made real by the staff. Except, Overwatch didn’t get a bovine, we got a CAT! Since people love cats and since the internet in no small part exists to extoll the virtues of cats to an adoring universe… let’s brainstorm stuff for Jetpack Cat here!
Motto: I recommend that Jetpack Cat’s official motto be “The meow is now.” Just my opinion, but I think it’s fitting for a hero Kitty.
Skins: making quality skins for Jetpack Cat should be easier than for most heroes, since cats are part of the elite triad of favorite pets to have by hoomans, (with the other two being dogs and bunny rabbits.) Some cat fur patterns are meh, but there’s like a bazillion of cat breeds, with some being utterly gorgeous. Also, some breeds recommend more than just the fur pattern and colors, and should come with voice lines recorded for those particular skins. For example, the Siamese cat is one of the most gorgeous breeds, but also notorious for its sheer viciousness. And orange cat, (which is Jetpack Cat’s default skin,) is known for having its own peculiar pattern of behavior. Black cats with shining green eyes have historically been affiliated with witchcraft, dark sorcery and Halloween, so the Void (as black cats are nicknamed,) would be a perfect offering during that holiday.
So, if you have a cat or know a lot about cats, share your knowledge of cat breeds and related stuff like emotes and voice lines that you think would be proper for that skin.
Mythics, like for any hero, are a category of its own. In ancient Egypt, cats were worshipped literally as gods. Other candidates are particularly beautiful breeds, like a thoroughbred unblemished snow-white fur cat. The fur could be made to glow from white to white-gold to gold, like it’s a magical creature.
There are toys loved by cats. Already, in character select, Kitty is shown chasing after the laser pointer. Other natural toys include balls of yarn and a little pet mouse, which could be made adorable by Kitty initially pretending to toy with it, in the manner of a cat sadistically playing with a mouse, but then Kitty stops terrorizing the mouse and snuggles up to it, with lots of happy meowing and the mouse happily squeaking with its new friend. The mouse would then become Kitty’s official friend. Kinda like the rare but real stories where a wolf and a deer are friends since they’re babies and hang out with each other without something horrible happening.
People familiar with cats will likely know the effect that catnip has on them. A catnip emote would be great, because it would make Kitty act hyper, which, it being a kitty-cat, would easily be made into something adorable.
Cats love treats. So, make emotes of Kitty being given stuff like tuna treats. Pixel Kitty will be super happy!
It’s not a secret that housecats have the same pattern of behavior as LIONS. The behavior of a tiny adorable kitty-cat letting loose a fearsome roar would be hilarious. Or, it might TRY to let loose a fearsome roar, and instead a meow comes out that TRIES to be fearsome but comes out as adorable instead.
Finally, my memory turns to the day on which I post this: Caturday. Originally, only Saturday was Caturday. But then, a random dude on the internet decreed that EVERY day would henceforth be Caturday. Stuff like sprays and emotes could really go to town on Caturday, because, let’s face it, Caturday exists for the cats. And the internet might as well be a digital Caturday.
I mean, I could go on and on, but let’s hear what YOU, the Overwatch playerbase have to say. We made this urban legend, and the powers that be in Blizzard heard about the urban legend and made it real. Let’s seize the moment and hope the staff is watching! Because nothing is as adorable than a furry feline.
