Let's bin multi freeze

Oh totally. I’ve had to switch to fortran for this one, because they are trying to matchmake for 100s of players in a game, with a roleQ, and preferences around who players with who in each unit, etc.

Speed has become an issue, so we have to do it in something which is FAST.

Fortran, old as hell, but still the fastest language out there for stuff like this.

Who knew?

According to mei fanatics she is perfectly fine and multi freez absolutely is not the issue and we should change everything about her original design first before removing this. On the other side of it everyone with half a brain cell can see its OP and the way it scales with the ult, freezing everyone trying to escape instead of getting 1-2 players stuck makes it even more op.

Knowing blizzard thou they won’t go back on a design they finalized and related, as we all know it would mean they would have to admit directly the choice was a bad fit from the start, this especially since people raised a finger on the PTR already before live.

I took a C course in university first year
It is legit useless for my major but it was mandatory for some reason.
Legit kinda dont regret taking it
It taught me a small part of basics of programming that I see in alot of languages of code

You almost never end up in the field you study for.

My job history is WEIRD. Everything from tracking down nukes post cold war, to voice acting, to programming stuff for supercomputer, to matchmakers for games, writing text engines, and simulations.

Hey, I’ll see if I can drag out something I built in a couple of days around Transport in NZ.

here we go.

http://datacom.github.io/nzta-mvc-vis/

You can filter stuff by clicking on it, or dragging an area on date ranges etc.

Go select alcohol, under crash causes, and see what it does to “time of day”

You can even see a little bump where people who have been drinking at work run into things on the way home.

My day job is about to do working out traffic patterns by which towers people’s cell phones connect to, and how that changes over time - so we can push that data into a model around 2019-nCoV

Sad part about my degree
Its useless.

Like no joke
Structuaral is kinda the general one ya know
Buildings, houses, bridges (note this for later comment) and Sky rises

Transporation engineers do tunnels bridges highway structures
building bridges and highway structures LITERALLY MAKES all our work its the most demanding
It what you get taught in University
but guess what structural engineer take it over.
and if they need help they boss us around ;-;
Like ehh.
If we dont work on projects for a company we are hired for, we work on paper work and error mistakes. Basic office work which literally if you go in as a civil engineer is the one thing you hate and dont wanna do. its sad really

I am gonna try work alot of projects open a nice shop
Work engineering during first 2 years of it, if it does good then well yeet guess I got a good subsitute for pain of Office work
OR get a teaching degree become either a math teacher if I dont feel like math research or become a math prof. (honestly my first choice)

I think the next thing I want to do is build drones - shrug

Maths research is fun as hell. (I mean, it doesn’t sound like it, but it is)

The reason players say “rework before removing this” is because that part is so important, if you remove it, they become a borderline throw pick. It’s like… if you take Genji and remove his Dash movement, or up the cooldown on Mercy’s Guardian Angel.
If something really important for their play is taken from them, they may not be able to do their job well enough to be a valid pick in most of the time they currently are acceptable.

I actually had to study data similar to this.
I studied trafic control data set in california
and my project was on how to develop a better road system
I remember when I saw the diagrams I got hard bounce because it was obvious being a one car lane and not a twp car lane when all the neighborhood exits on that intersection.

Its really cool to see how that data is being made

Weirdly close to building matchmakers. I’m not sure how much you got into using the constrained numeric optimization engines.

Same deal. put in data, give constraints, give a cost function, and stand well back.

With matchmakers you have a bunch of people with SR’s (for instance) constraints around roles, who they will and won’t play with (avoids), what set of roles they want in their team (for things like LFG), etc.

The cost function takes into account how long people have been waiting (Pity timer), the how close the SR’s are for each role compared to the other team (so you have fair games), etc.

Oh it is fun
I am rn at the top 10 in my unveristy for Calculus and linear ablgebra no lies.
My prof wanted me to consider being ta and help him with research
just way that it has to be is weird.
I dont like doing same thing over and over you know? thats why I chose civil engineering

And yet you play Reinhardt

You could get into AI if you want. The maths isn’t crazy, but it is SURE not doing the same stuff every day since it is a moving target.

Lot of matrix calc though (because graphics are good at that, so you turn your problems into that…)

It is a fast moving field, so in 3 years it will be very different from today.

Which weirdly enough makes it easy to get into, because everyone is always learning from scratch.

I had to study data given by how many accidents
near misses and how crowded streets were
Explain it in a basic form and better clean graph to explain what happened
Design a simulation with the new system explain how well it works
I didnt design simutlation I designed a decent bit of new system and I was the presenter :unamused:
I legit had to present three large chunks my other group mates had because they had anxiety of presenting

Being the presenter isn’t bad. It is a skill which you will use a LOT.

A WHOLE lot. I don’t have any kind of anxiety around presenting though, so I find it easy.

Give me a white board, and I can present on anything.

Without a white board, I have trouble

well, it is a work day, (Monday here), and it is also 1am, on that monday, so I better bail out and sleep.

Its been nice to have a nice conversation.

I use different skins

Also I learning winston he is so much fun

I could, I just was never into coding
I only took one course and it was that course I told you about earlier

It seriously isn’t about the coding. Some of the best AI researchers I know can’t code. They maths.

You have minions to code

Hm interesting
I actually like sound of that.
But like what is it used for if I may ask?

What the AI research?
Everything?

Ok, so, say for instance, you have a simulation for traffic patterns (lets pick something we both know).

It is doing very fine grained simulations and it is slow as ALL hell.

You can build a learning system, which learns to predict from the inputs, what the outputs of the simulation is.

But, because it isn’t having to run the simulation itself, it can run REALLY fast.

It basically turns the simulation which is taking a bunch of tiny steps into this monsterous function.

You could never write it yourself, but you don’t have to.

That would be one example. Using AI to build the tools, which others use to get work done.

Ok bed for this old man.

How about we bin all these topics under another mega thread that we can ignore for years? Because Mei is fine and doesn’t need any nerfs

Not another ghetto thread.

Please, Mercy’s ones were bad enough.

Taking away her multi freeze isn’t gutting her though
