Let's be honest

I simply abandon competitive in every game but smurf was always giant problem in every game that I played.

Increase it to 50 or have a different system.

Maybe based on how many games you complete in role queue QP only or something idk.

They should increase the minimum competitive entry level. Not a single new player would care, and if people complain then you know they’re smurfing.

I start off at every game being super bad. I’m slow at my start for learning and I had just picked the game up again and had only been playing Minecraft for so many years before that. Once I get into a rhythm And start looking at others play I get better and improve much faster.

But why would Blizzard reduce the amount of smurfs? It’s free money.

You have to play around fifteen hours to get to level 25 even if you win a lot and rake in the gold medals (done it three times). That’s more than enough time to learn how the core game modes and most of the heroes work. If they really don’t know what they’re doing like you say, they’ll be placed low until they get better, at which point they’ll start ranking up.

Being that quickplay is a great way to reinforce bad play styles and given the fact that competitive is the only “real” mode in this game, I don’t think it’d be right to keep new players out of it for longer than they already are. Some games don’t even take fifteen hours to complete entirely. It’d be silly to have to spend that much time just to start really playing.

It’s a myth that alt accounts are profitable for Blizzard. Firstly, alt accounts are free on console. Secondly, this game is $20 at full price on PC and often discounted even further. Blizzard’s money doesn’t come from $20 software sales. OW makes way more money through loot boxes and OWL-related stuff. Alt accounts don’t buy loot boxes and people with multiple accounts are still only one potential OWL viewer. Blizzard wants you to play the game, buy loot boxes, and watch OWL, not buy alternate accounts, and they know the best way to get more people playing is to make a good game, not intentionally draw in smurfs for that sweet $20 a pop on one out of four platforms on which the game is available.

I say raise the comp level, people say I don’t care about new players :pensive:

But you have superior wording :nail_care:t5:

shivers from when I darn near fell into bronze in season 7

Unless you’re in bronze why should it matter?

12-15 hours at the game and you have no idea what you are doing?

Because they want to be in the esports scene and crap like that.

it’s been 2000years

Rainbow Six Siege also runs into this problem. The game has a STEEP learning curve, map knowledge, objective locations, callouts, etc. And yet the gate is Level 30 yet the NEWCOMER playlist is open till rank 50. After that its closed off to you. And that playlist for people LEARNING the game. Its very dumb. I don’t understand it either. Both Overwatch and Siege seem to want to toss you in via baptism by fire when you’re still processing how to be human.

Overwatch isn’t pay2win. Anything you can pay Blizzard for is just lootboxes, which just give you skins, sprays, voice lines, and highlight intros. They don’t change gameplay at all.

I wasnt ready to play comp until like, level 100 lmao. But some people really dislike casual modes and dont care if they throw themselves into ranked and simply learn along the way :woman_shrugging:

But then you have teammates who are so hardcore, I swear they have their own head up where the sun doesn’t shine and they swear you’re trolling along with a million reasons above and then you’re impacting their rank and it goes down hill from there into a nice toxic team filled mess.

If you buy a new account to play against people with much worse average mechanical skill than you have, at least until the algorithm sorts you into the appropriate skill range, that is effectively pay2win. All new accounts start in newbie country, so if you just want to steamroll some n00bZ with your GM skills, this is how you do it.

Blizzard accepts it because the people whose games it ruins have already paid, so they don’t care if those even quit the game over it.

with this player base size and 4 years after release it is a bad idea to change the level for comp…

Matchmaking besides being broken will never work anyway because the developers support cheating through smurfing because it pads their pockets. Every night including tonight it’s 2 and 3 smurfs on every team running the game. ‘Let’s be honest’ the devs don’t give af.
