The matchmaking is just bad. A lot of people are playing. The matchmaker is just very lax and puts people no where near each other in skill in the same match. They want to drive up engagement numbers. More games played = more money being spent. Simple as.
Nobody “knows” real numbers except Acti-Blizz, but we can make assumptions based on low Twitch viewership, low YouTube CC views, less social media engagement, personal experiences with friends that used to play this game, queues taking longer, and matchmaking being a wider spread of skill level.
The people that keep sticking to the “Highest number ever” are just coping and it’s laughable.
Well obviously the game has less players for sure. Like one assumption i got is poor quality matches and fast ques.
But we have to take more factors for example it could be that people dont really watch twitch or engage with social media cause it could be more of a casual game people log in play few matches log out for example
Overwatch stopped being a casual game once they removed the only casual progression in the game- earning levels and skins. Sure, skins are still in the game for $15, but you can’t earn them anymore.
It’s a try-hard, competitive, sweaty game now.
i fail to see how is it competitive currenly when the matchmaking sucks and even the new format in the pvp is clunky
This is just unbelievable because the same we dont have numbers to back up the game is dying they have not numbers to back up the game is better than ever. But we atleast have experiences that they are continuously refusing to acknowledge by calling them “anecdotical” even when too many people is experiencing long queues depending of their platform and region for example. Oh and its totally impossible the game has more players than never when Blizzard just lost access to China, just this have caused the playerbase to shrink probably a 20% or even more. But they just are coping.
Kinda funny you mention this, because it’s actually gone up on the official XBL “most played games” chart from 13/50 to 12/50.
13/50 (just behind Destiny 2, just in front of Rocket League) wasn’t a bad placement, now it’s just behind Madden.
Now if you tell me that Overwatch 2 is dead/dying, then you’re going to have to have to have some crazy data in order to convince me that Destiny 2, Rocket League and Madden are somehow dead/dying games too.
Yes if you like a game you are licking the company’s boots. Always remember this folks.
What a funny thing to say. “Overwatch isn’t casual because instead of haviing to play for hours and hours and hours to earn skins, you can just buy them.” Do you see the how that statement is incorrect? Probably not, lol.
Are people experiencing long queues? Last time I played I didn’t have to wait longer than 30 seconds.
They run out of arguments and start calling people doomer. But get angry when you call them shill.
Im not saying the game is dying but is probably receiving less traction than you think. It does mean that the game has so many downloads, not that they stick playing it. And anyway that the game is popular in an specific platform doesnt mean the game is popular in every one.
Some of them do, specially from EU apparently.
There’s no real explanation as to what is the quantitative metric used, but the words “Most Played” imply the games actively being booted up and time spent interacting with it.
Likewise, there’s also the “Top Free” and “Top Paid” games that seem to imply popularity through download.
So the actual data is most likely implying the games being played, alongside with the fact the chart is actively changing on a daily basis.
You’re correct, but by using official sources and cross comparing them to other official sources, unconnected data can be used to paint a much clearer picture.
In this case that Overwatch 2 is in a very good spot objectively.
Just to add to that, in PS Store OW2 is like in the top 10 but Multiversus is just a couple positions before, and that game has problems. So I dont really know what to think about that.
Greedy “f2p” games stick together and die together.
By greedy f2p do you mean Multiversus? I dont know about that because I didnt play.
Both this and that game. I said before that games playerbase would shrink to nothing even if the launch was successful due to overpriced cosmetics and it has. Kind of reminds you of this game and it’s “30 million players” doesn’t it? It sure doesn’t seem like 30 million if I see the same 30 (not million just 30) every single time. Blizzard better change its ways fast if it wants to avoid the same fate but it seems unavoidable considering how much popularity OW has lost in general. The good old days of 2016 are long and gone when everyone had positive things to say about it.
it’s more of a ship with a giant hole and pump, and instead of fixing the hole, they get another pump
Most people are in plat and gold. If you are plat you should have no problems getting a match with people of your skill in a timely manner
The reason matchmaking is bad is simply because the matchmaker is putting players who have no business being in the same lobby together. That’s it. There is no reason a diamond player should be in a GM lobby.
All they need to do is shrink the SR range at which players are matched together.
The data when separated into different individual categories paints a very disconnected and indiscernible picture. It’s better to not focus on anomalies and let them skew the picture.
But when you put data in a chart or compare commonalities (games accessible across multiple platforms) and gauge relations between those games, a clearer perception appears.
Treat outliers as just that: data anomalies, focus on the similar examples that can be quantified across all platforms, or at least examples that can be compared in a like fashion.
These numbers are from a week ago, but it should help the point a little bit by placing games and available 1st party data side by side. (Steam numbers were current player counts, numbers in parentheses are 30 day averages, and the numbers are representative of their position on the chart)
