Leavers will be the death of Overwatch

I’ve been playing Overwatch for about 3 years now, started on Xbox and now on PC. I’m not sure what’s going on with the rise of leavers but it is getting out of hand and the devs need to address it before they lose more disheartened players. Throwers are one thing but when you are winning a match and a team member loses internet connection which causes a loss of SR on your end, it doesn’t make sense. I’ve won 5v6 matches before but they aren’t meant to be won. A loss of SR due to someone else disconnecting it not fair. I believe a system needs to be put in place where the person who disconnects will lose SR and the rest of the losing team neither gain nor lose. I would say the winning team shouldn’t gain any either because they technically didn’t earn it, it was given to them.

OR another fix would be if someone disconnects on Team A, then someone playing the same role on Team B should be required to sit out or only spectate. If this is meant to be competitive then it should also be built around fairness, and if I play 50 rounds a week and 25 of those result in a disconnect (either on my team or the enemy’s)—then that is not fair. Yes, I think Overwatch is less fun when even someone on the enemy team disconnects. Some look at it as free SR but I look at it as I’m ranking up but I’m not deserving it.

Please, please, please developers—look into this issue. I’m beginning to lose interest in the game more and more especially when I can lose 500 SR in one sitting due to throwers/leavers.

Thanks for reading.

Your suggestions punish others because of the leaver - that is not fair. The fact you are punished if the leaver is on your team and you lose is not that fair either, but it seems more fair than your suggestions. At least you get a game and a chance to win, even if it is much reduced. Perhaps they should reduce, but not eliminate, the SR you lose, like half or something if you had a leave outside of say 2 minutes from the end and the leaver gets double SR loss. The team without the leaver shouldn’t be punished and someone sitting it out because someone on the other team left is just crazy.

Your right, I quit for 7 or 8 months because of leavers. I decided to give it another try, My last 2 of 3 games had leavers. I do not want to wait for 10 to 15 minutes a game to have leavers… I give up on overwatch.

Something needs to change. I know so many people who will not play because of this.

When a match is 4 vs 6 (or worse), no one “wins”. The remaining teammates struggle to find balance and optimism is crushed. The other team has no real challenge. SR is being handed out and taken away unfairly.

They literally added a feature today that if you get a leaver in the first 2 minutes, it puts you back at the top of the queue.

The server should just automatically shut down if someone leaves after that wait time where it does at the beginning of matches.

OR!! If someone leaves let’s say 3 games, from then on everyone else on the team gets a message notifying them a leaver has been assigned to their team and if they’d like to play with them. Everyone votes “no”, that person is replaced and put back into queue. Problem solved. Make this only for comp so they can still play quick play and get practice more.
Leave them on probation for three months or something so there actually consequences for leaving.

Ah I see. So if your internet is spotty for a day and you Dc a few times you can never play the game again because nobody in their right mind would ever vote yes.

Oh, cool. So that means if I’m losing I can bail my 6 stack out of losing SR.

That doesn’t seem ripe for abuse at all. I love trying my hardest for 15 minutes only to have it all go to waste because somebody calculated a leave.

I love how people with poor internet connections can’t do anything as they cannot reconnect.

Not gonna work, man. We have the best, or close to the best, system in place.

Upfront it sounds backwards, but in reality there is a reason for why remaining team members must take the match loss.

Yeah, this would further give incentives for players to deliberately leave to troll the opposing team. Back during season 1 there was a “handicap” adjustment for when there was a leaver, but they removed for this very reason.

Most soccer leagues (which I would argue to be the world’s most competitive sport) allows a team to play a man down if they used up their allotment of substitutions for that match. Also consider this is still just a video game if I am kicked out because of an opponent leaver, I would feel pretty damn awful (even if there was any sort of compensation).

The development team knows there has to be a very fine balance between the leaver in question, the remaining players on that leavers team and the players of the opposing team (who are the majority), so really the balance of handling leavers is as fair and balanced as it can get in many ways. There is no perfect solution, and most solutions I have seen proposed often don’t take into the fair consideration of the team without the leaver.

As a reminder, you as a player have the means to minimize your impact from leavers on your own team! The best way to minimize the impact from leavers is to group up with reliable friends or players you meet by using the “Looking for Group” tool in the game client or the “Looking for Group” forums. Even then, if you perfer to play solo-queue, you are already at better odds of having less leavers on your own team, than your opponents because you only have 5 random teammates versus 6 random opponents.

Ah yes, discriminate against the leaver is your solution.

still don’t think you should loose sr for a 5v6.

Leavers wouldn’t matter as much if the individual player had more power. However, it is extremely difficult to carry in this game, and thats by design. So a 5v6 is practically gg. That’s overwatch. C’est la vie
