Latency issue on US Central server (+ huge spikes in latency)

I posted about this in the General Discussion forum and someone suggested I post it here, so I will. For the past couple of months or so I’ve been experiencing issues with latency, I went from getting 30 ping consistently with the occasional 40 to now getting 48-50 and up to 60 consistently.

I’ve talked to other people from the East coast about this (they’re from NY and NJ, I’m from Canada) and it seems it’s been happening to them too, a few of them noticed it started happening to them either during or after the Anniversary event. I’ve read a few posts on this forum and it seems this is something that’s been happening to other people as well.

To preface these tests, I use a powerline adapter. So, not a full-on ethernet cable but not wi-fi, either. I ran a WinMTR test and here’s the result:

Something I don’t understand is that it seems to say above that I get an average of 30-40, and yet when I play with the “show network latency” option enabled it always tells me I’m getting around 48-50 and up to 60.

I also ran another test prior and got a huge lag spike which do happen occasionally and sometimes lead to me getting booted from the server, so I figured I might as well include that one, too. Here it is:

I wasn’t sure how to format this so if I need to repost the test results to make them easier to read it’s no problem at all. :- )

Hey POW!

It looks like you are getting some packet loss early on, which may be causing issues:

| 0 | 506 | 506 | 2 | 7 | 85 | 5 |

| :warning: 2 | 482 | 476 | 11 | 21 | 132 | 26 |

If possible, I would suggest bypassing any routers, adapters or extenders you are using and connect the computer directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and retest.

You could also try testing a hotspot or free VPN to see if there’s any difference.

As for the differences of latency display in-game, this is because the display was changed a while back by compensate for other changes. You can read more about this here.
