I've got a weird fps drop issue

So every 45 seconds ish I go from 50, to about 8 fps. I have used the “ctrl shift N” thing and figured out that while png spikes from a consistent 50 ms to a 173-273 ms range I don’t have packet loss during these spikes. For the life of me I cannot figure out what causes this and its a recent issue. I am running the game on GTX 940mx on lowest possible/recommended competitive settings. It is incredibly disruptive to playing competitive on hit scan or really anything, but the latency only lasts about half a second. I would appreciate any help, but if it is unfixable its okay, it really only others my OCD and my Mcree gameplay.

These standard tips can help resolve most Overwatch FPS drops:

  • Reset Overwatch’s Video Settings
  • Update your graphic card driver.
  • Reset your graphic card driver settings., then make sure that your Graphic Card Driver control panel is configured correctly for Overwatch. This includes setting Overwatch at Maximum Performance (not optimal power) for Power Management and making sure it set to run on the graphics card and not the motherboard chipset.
  • In drastic cases you may need to reinstall the driver and update to the most recent driver for your card. Remember to use Display Driver Uninstaller to completely clean out your old driver. Then download the most recent NVidia or AMD driver for your system.
  • There have been other threads reporting that updating your system BIOS can help with some performance issues with recent patches. Please be careful if you choose to update your BIOS and look up your motherboard’s instructions on how to do this.

Also here are advanced tips I have written in Overwatch’s Tech Support forum that maximize your FPS performance in the game.

I figured out the solution. I have no idea why it works though. I just uninstalled and reinstalled Overwatch. the lag spikes went away completely. This isn’t the first time this has happened and reinstalling fixed it last time too.
