"It's QP" - Excuse or Reason?

I have played Overwatch since late 2016, quite possibly over 20,000 hours over many accounts from ye’ol days where you could make as many as you wanted, before phone verification.

I have constantly come up against one thing, no matter how constructive or good intentioned I try to portray in-game. And that is “It’s QP, [Insert reasoning here]”. I didnt see it pretty much at all prior 2020 but these days I see it used as the ONLY excuse to throw games and ruin it for everyone (both sides, you play OW to have fun and adrenalin).

I kind of conflate it with “gg”, people say it so much and no matter how good a game actually is that it has lost all meaning.

What is your opinion on “it’s qp”? I think it is used WAY too much and Blizzard really need to get on with crushing this because it seems like one of the core sources of toxicity. We cannot have constructive conversations or critism if this is how so many reply then sometimes end up reporting you.

It’s an excuse to throw, be toxic, etc.

I find this the opposite. Qp, no toxicity. Mmr and trueskill, make me play my skill level anyway. Comp. Filtered messages and people telling people to report someone off skill. Abusive and completely ruins the fun

The way I’ve seen that phrase most commonly used, and the way I’ve also used it, is when someone is getting unreasonably upset about losing a quickplay match. Like, yeah losing doesn’t feel good, I get it, but this isn’t ranked, it’s quick play, there was no rank on the line or anything, there’s absolutely no reason to get so upset that you start flaming your teammates and whatnot.

Every time I’ve seen “It’s just qp” it’s someone goofing off like waving at the enemy team, trying to dance with them, etc, or just plain going 1-12 and trying to force their pick into a team of counters.

Thats actually another issue I see. People assume that you are being over-dramaic and unreasonably upset although there is absolutely nothing to signify it. Even if I am being constructive because I see there is a new player, normally the other team try and defend them like I committed a crime against humanity and do pretty much everything iv just said.

It feels very much like Blizzard have created an enforced ghost town out of fear of being social.

How about when they literally are refusing to play the game and screaming it’s just qp? It’s lame and I report every one of them. It’s not just people getting upset over losing.

That should be in customs but that is not at all what my experience is

That’s your experience. I’ve played this game since beta OW1, and it’s always the throwers and toxic kids saying it’s just qp while they are literally not playing the game, or actively throwing.

Because apparently there are still people who do not get it a decade later. It should go without saying.

Ultimately, it’s just a video game. But I think players should still put forth their best effort. Regardless, it’s impossible to control what other people do, so getting upset about it is completely fruitless.

I Never have a filtered message in quick play. Chill no kill lobbies, look for players. You like them, endorse and get filled with people like them. I dont remember how to do it but dns changes, ip changes can get you elsewhere. It kinda works like a connection maze but play enough you can get wayyyyy better lobbies

It’s a reason. Qp is a casual mode where nobody can agree on its purpose. Is it to relax and have fun? Is it a place to practice for comp? Is it a place to grind challenges? Is it a place to learn new heroes? Yes to all of those and more. The only problem is when you have legitimate throwers, as in intentionally trying to lose the match. But thats very rare most of the time you get someone trying to full sweat for practice teamed up with somebody who wants to mess arround and have fun resulting in the overwhelming number of thrower accusations.

Literally had spam bad messages earlier in qp. All of them just saying gg (racial slur). Like I said that is your experience.

I really only use it when people are getting antsy about someone underperforming a bit. A lot of people use QP as a chill option to comp, or to learn a new hero, or to try out a goofy or untested ability combo. So when it comes to QP, if people are starting to be toxic and flame teammates for genuinely trying to have fun in a less stressful environment than Comp can provide, I’ll hit them with the “its qp, just chill”. I can see it being construed as a bit toxic or a “thrower excuse” but I think you can genuinely tell when someone is actually throwing or just trying to have fun or learn new heroes. QP is the place for that, and if people start getting mad in QP for learning heroes then why should anyone try to learn a hero? You get flamed in comp if you are learning someone, which makes sense, people want to climb ranks. You shouldnt get attacked in QP for it. And ultimately its a game, so if you wanna have fun or relax in a QP lobby where stakes arent as high, then frankly I personally dont see the damage. Just have fun, do silly combos, and play the game. Thats my opinion anyways.

Gg is good game

Glhf good luck have fun

Im really sorry your experience the game this way. It really should not be like that

gg n(slur) is not acceptable in any sense, so saying there are no bad messages in qp, is just delusional.

That is awfully provokative and assumptious that you are right. The kind of thinking that correlates with the same kinds of people who use this as an excuse.

honestly, trying to force a hero into counters in QP isnt necessarily bad either, granted there is a level where its okay to POLITELY ask them to swap, and if they genuinely care they usually will. But if you’re kind of attacking them and trying to force the swap they’re less likely too. Anyways, my point: It can be good to learn how to play around your counters and still have a presence on a hero despite the odds, so to an extent I’m okay with playing into counters in QP where there isnt much of anything on the line. going 1-12 on, lets say genji, into a team with a beam or two and figuring out how to play around the disadvantage can be a good thing if thats what they’re after. if its an issue then again, a polite ask for them to swap is completely valid, just dont get toxic and flame in QP, thats never gonna go over well.

It is because I am right. Glad you caught the vibe. Stop taking a video game so seriously.
