Its Offical... OW is dead, and OW2 won't help

Yup… came back to it today after a couple weeks break

queued 8 minutes (timer said 3) just to get put into a lopsided match against a cheater…

couldn’t even get out of spawn

Jeff leaving was a sign… rats deserting a sinking ship (not that jeff is a rat, but for the analogy)

this game is dying, stuffed with cheaters, smurfs and others who make even attempting to play a fair match a nightmare
trouble is its so god damn addictive… seriously this game is the most addictive thing ive ever played… but i am going to try my best to stay off of it… there is just no fun to be had anymore and i can only see it getting worse with microtransactions galore come OW2

laters… it was fun… now its just hell… back to tf2 for me

Long queue times don’t mean the game is dead. It means lots of people are queing for that role.

Jeff leaving also isn’t a bad sign. Are people not allowed to leave?

Having cheaters and smurfs doesn’t mean a game is dying.

Jeff was pretty much pushed to his limit and ultimately forced to leave. So his departure is most likely not a good sign.

You guys are certainly inventing a lot of stories about this.

people don’t just leave a primo job after 19 years service for no reason…

and if they do, they usually have a big lead up with much notice and farewell stuff…

we got a hastily written note out of nowhere

People leave jobs after 19 years for all kinds of reasons – usually because they want to do something else. He doesn’t owe you a goodbye, he’s not your friend. And why would he say anything about it to the community? Look at how you all overreact to everything.

Glad to see your experience in long queue time made it “official”. My experience is completely different. Maybe it’s a DEU error?

So the leader of Overwatch, one of the best games ever created which won many awards, leaves all of a sudden with little to no explaination ?

Do you find it normal how sudden it was ? Especially for his case, you’d expect it to be very professional, with an announcement said a few days or weeks prior to his departure.

It came out of NOWHERE. We know Activision is very greedy and we also know Jeff was the one fighting against over-monetization and he also is the one who made it so all our progress and cosmetics transfer from Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2.

But it works for every job. If you actually want to quit your job because you think you’re ready to retire and you ACTUALLY wanted to do it, you wouldn’t just quit and say “ok im out bye” without even explaining.

We’re not inventing stories. We’re pointing out something that’s just obvious. Nobody would leave their job this suddenly if they weren’t forced and pushed out of their limits.

Jeff had no apparent reason whatsoever to leave his job. It’s just crazy people think that he quit out of nowhere with no explaination and no reason and say that it’s totally valid and normal.

That’s literally what you’re doing.

Unless you personally spoke to Jeff since he left, then you have no idea why he did it. And if you claim to know, then you are literally inventing stories.

“Best games ever created” is a tall glass of water. Regardless, yeah, people in his position leave positions all the time, and without explanation. He doesn’t owe you one.

Yes. As I said, this happens a lot.

We are not privy to internal discussion; they don’t need to let us know. And given that his replacement was lined up and ready to go, this was clearly planned out ahead of time. He wasn’t fired, he didn’t quit. He went through the proper process of leaving the position.

Clearly he didn’t just quit and say he was out.

He doesn’t need to justify his reason to you, or me, or any other poster here. He planned to leave the position for whatever reasons, he worked with Blizzard to handle the transition to a successor, and he left to do whatever it is he wants to do now. What you guys are doing is inventing stories to spin a narrative that benefits whatever various personal grievances are held.

No I didn’t speak to Jeff. No I do not pretend to know. But it’s just so blatant at this point.

I never said I was spitting out purely proven facts. But this is just not normal at all to me at least.

FINALLY SOMEONE GETS MY ISSSUE HERE

Agreed. It does seem like people are really blowing Jeff’s departure out of proportion.

Cheaters and smurfs are honestly inevitable in a competitive game (especially considering console players can make multiple accounts for free).

Oh good, a new episode of my favorite melodrama.

Alexa, set reminder for tomorrow at this time.

OW is not dead.

If they release the OW2 that they have said they will, it will definitely be even less dead.

I agree, but the fun is.

Fair enough, I’ll grant you that. It certainly does not seem normal to me.

Never said he owned me one. But Jeff was so adored of all the community and was himself close to it.

Give me a similar case and I’ll believe you.

I never said we should. But his replacement is also very harsh and sudden too. Barely anyone even knew who Aaron Keller was before his name was mentionned. He was never properly introduced to us. If his departure was really planned within the company we would’ve already had a video by Aaron Keller introducing himself and talking about the future plans.

But guess what ? They’re still working on this video proving how sudden Jeff’s departure was, even for the company.

Yeah he’s just getting out of Blizzard and gonna work for Dreamheaven. Definitely not quitting his place as the leader of the project Overwatch

He most likely didn’t as I already mentionned above.

Maybe we are. Maybe we’re not. But don’t act surprised if what we are inventing was ever revealed to be true.

I “invent” these stories to be prepared for the worst. That’s how I cope with stuff like that. Jeff’s departure did affect me and also worries me because it does not seem right.

Of course I do hope I’m wrong. But only future will tell us anyway. Or not.

Relax, this is all normal. Just take a breath and things will be fine.

I know that he is allowed to quit and this is normal for someone to quit their job at some point or another. But the fact that a such adored figure like Jeff Kaplan leaves like that… One day he’s here, the following he isn’t.

Of course he is allowed to not tell us why. But why wouldn’t he ? He does not work for them anymore, and Jeff has always talked about what’s actually going on behind the scenes, so this wouldn’t be any different.

Maybe it was for more personal reasons. Either way I don’t want to think about it nor care about it anymore. It ain’t my business. I’ll still admire Jeff and will look forward to his job at Dreamheaven
