It’s been a trend with Brigitte players that they like to point out to the fact that she’s the least picked meta hero and blame Hanzo as the main cause of the meta we are experiencing. In this post, I will explain that while Hanzo is a big contributor to the meta, he’s not the one causing it and why the main problem is in fact still Brigitte.
Brigitte’s currently is the least picked meta hero sitting at 7th place and her pick rate has tremendously dropped since the beginning of this season in GM. This is because the meta has shifted to double sniper and Brigitte, while still playable, is not very good against that. However the threat of Brigitte is the thing that is preventing players from picking heroes that would be able to contest those snipers. Her being part of the hero pool, is what is leading to a meta (double sniper) that is not very good for her. Her OPness against certain heroes (well almost every hero) is what is responsible for her having the lowest pickrate among meta heroes whether that makes intuitive sense or not.

I wouldn’t say she’s op, Hanzo is however op still even after his recent nerf. He’s a shield buster, a short, mid and long range DPS. He’s basically jack of all trades DPS and superior to most if not all of other DPS heroes.
Brigitte on the other hand, yes she can shield bash but that’s six meters and only one target at a time. Team coordination can easily eliminate her. Plenty of heroes can do long range damage too, especially splash such as Junkrat, Pharah or even Zarya can do some splash damage but still outside of Brigitte’s shield bash range.
It’s just a question of some players adapting to Brigitte and realising they can still shoot and deal the same damage a little outside of six meters. I even played Reinhardt and Orisa against Brigitte recently and honestly didn’t find her a problem. Sure, she can be a nuisance perhaps but she’s not really game breaking unlike Hanzo at the moment.

I never argued that Hanzo was not OP because frankly he is more OP than Brigitte. I said that he is not the one responsible for this meta.
Also it’s definitely not a question of adapting to Brigitte. People have already adapted! That’s why we have double sniper. But try to put yourself in my shoes, a DPS player. Would you have fun if your only options were 2 heroes that are for most players extremely boring to play? This is like Mercywatch but for DPS players.

Doomfist, D.va, Winston or Genji (even Zen if you’re JJonak) can counter snipers pretty efficiently.
aren’t we talking about meta? Dva and Winston are out.

I’ve said this several times on other threads as well.
She has made snipers the most dominant thing in this game because she’s preventing them from being countered properly.
In other words preventing dive heroes from being played.

A specific comp =/= meta. Except Genji who kinda sucks right now, all the characters I named are still meta on some maps imo.

Snipers prevent Brigitte’s counters, except for Snipers, from working. Brigitte prevents Snipers counters, except for other Snipers, from working.
Neither party is innocent, but at the end of the day, it’s not Brigitte who ends up lacking counterplay due to a low risk, insanely high reward playstyle that’s also largely enabled by Mercy being able to safely erase any mistakes the Sniper makes.

It takes Brigitte over 3 seconds to kill anyone at 200 HP (with or without combo).

If you erased Brigitte, we would still have a Hanzo based meta. It would probably be a bit different but it would still be Hanzo, Zarya, Rein, Mercy, Zen, and someone else.
Brig is a counter to heroes who never had counters before so it is natural for people to blame her for everything. But from the standpoint of the meta. Hanzo is so strong that regardless of what heroes are available, until he is nerfed the game has no choice but to be built around him

You would certainly not see Zarya every game unless it’s a map that favours her like before.
Instead you would probably see Hanzo alongside Dive tanks for most maps.
Zarya is not relevant when Dive can be played because she’s only good when enemies are concentrated in one area. She only becomes necessary when you’re playing Rein against a Deathball that has Zarya because the Rein with Zarya will 100% of the time win the ReinVRein battle.

So I’m going to go ahead and say you’re wrong. First off, if she was OP against almost every hero then I think she would have one of the higher pick rates.
Second off, I don’t think that double sniper is the meta.
Third off, Brig isn’t preventing people from picking heroes to dive snipers. When’s the last time you went to dive a sniper and saw a Brig chilling in back? It just isn’t somewhere a brig typically is since she only has a flail and snipers are typically in sniper range. It’s hard to support your team with your flail when you’re in the backlines.
