Is there such a thing as secondary DPS?

Since healers have primary (Mercy, Moira, Ana) and secondary (Brigitte, Lucio, Zenyatta) healers to complement each other, would it be a stretch to say that DPS have this sort of catergorization?

I can imagine heroes Symmetra, Mei, Doomfist and such being members since they don’t have the hit-scan benefits of a primary DPS like Solider, McCree, and Widowmaker?

Whats dps? Oh u mean one shot bots ? Hanzo and Widow. Because the rest of the dps are throw picks right?

Who hurt you?

How on earth did to come to that conclusion? I didn’t even mention Hanzo. :upside_down_face:

Just sick of the game, I cannot play rank any more, I get 1 lose , 1 win, over and over. People are sick of the game, so they go on smurfs and throw games. In my last 10 games in 8 of them someone trolled.
Meta is unfun, and no skill = high reward is poring all over the place

I don’t know if I would say it’s as strong as “main healer and off healer, or main tank and off tank” but there are specializations among the DPS.

Hit scan DPS generally hit their targets easily as it literally goes where you point it. No arc, no delay and while there is dmg drop off there is no maxim range per say.

Projectile DPS suffer from a lot of problems at actually hitting their target but tend to do more dmg and have little to no dmg fall off in compensation.

Of the two Hit scan is generally smaller burst of dmg and relies heavily upon critical head shots, thus gets shut down by barriers fairly well. Projectile on the other hand while gets a benefit form head shot in most cases usually can’t do it as reliably. In return it can usually bust down a barrier much easier as it can do more dmg per shot and also from a farther distance without an issue.

Pretty much all DPS can fit into those broad catagories and then later branches off from there to be more unique. Obviously the two mains things is doing accurate dmg quickly and building up a good offensive Ult.

This is kind of why Hanzo is king right now. He has all the advantages of being a projectile hero and near hit scan speeds with his arrows plus a very good Ult that he gets within a minute or two of most matches.

Compare him to say Symetra or Sombra. They might really help your team in other ways but in raw DPS numbers they will flag behind. It also doesn’t help in Sym’s case she has a mostly defensive Ultiamte (even if can help you push the point).

So if there had to be an “off DPS” I’d say hero’s like Symetra, Sombra, Mei and so on. Hero’s that sacrifice some DPS potential to add greater utility to their team.

This actually made some things clear, particularly as to how and why Hanzo is so good, since he’s able to flex for the range to take out Pharahs whilst having the butt-load of damage to dish out close range.

Digressing aside, heroes like Symmetra, Sombra and Mei are great heroes in their own right, but since they are off DPS, they need a main DPS to compensate and balance their unique power for the team.

Symm was a support slot back in the day. Sombra was as well, on certain 2cp maps back when ult charge came off health packs. Mei is considered kind of an off tank / projectile McCree. Doomfist is a 1-shot pick oriented DPS / utility for stunlock with a coordinated enough team.

But basically, no there’s no such thing as “secondary DPS” in popular lingo. There’s projectile/hitscan as mentioned, and then some weird utility/other roles that sometimes in certain meta/map combinations get picked instead of a tank or support.

Nah I wouldn’t say a main DPS is the answer to using Sym or mei. Instead of getting 2 good dps that way you get 1.5 so to speak. (which is also why two off dps on the same team is almost always a disaster)

What usually works is either making the most of their utility and forcing the enemy to fight in a situation where you have the advantage (aka turrets for sym, hacked Mega for Sombra). Or to use an off tank/off healer with higher than normal dmg to give your team that extra edge.

Dva for tanks and Zen for healers tends to do this fairly well. (from a pure DPS stand point, not saying they work over all as a team though)

In dive, Tracer was primary DPS and the second DPS was the secondary (could be Genji, Soldier, Widow, etc.)

In this meta?..I’m not too sure.

I would say that there is a subsection of DPS, which I think is called a flanker. High mobility DPS who can jump in, assassinate, and disengage quickly. Heroes like Genji, Tracer, and Doomfist.

They would be attackers that are picked for something other than damage.

Mei (Stall), Sombra (EMP), Symmetra (Utility), Torb (Turret)

Yes, and her name is Sombra.
