Is there a way to permanently hide chat?

Ctrl+Shift+C hides chat but you have to type that every login. Is there a way to toggle chat on/off between sessions?

Yes you can disable all the chats in the options if you want. Permanently.

go to social and you can turn them off somewhere I forget where though

I’m not trying to be a horse’s *** here but I’ve already looked in Options/Settings guys.

That’s step #1. I didn’t find anything. Step #2 is ask for help. Here I am.

I’ll look again when I get home from work…

(Actually, now that I think about it, step #2 is Google so brb.)

Yeah one web site says

  1. Head to the settings
  2. Open the “Social” tab
  3. In the “Text Chat” menu, select the chats you want to hide by switching them to “Off”.

I don’t know how I overlooked that, I’ll check again when I get home.

Far as I know it’s off by default, I never touched it and I just looked and my Match chat was off. I think they did that when it updated to OW2.

Yes, match chat is off by default but I really want team chat off more importantly. But all chat is what I was going for.

Don’t judge. I don’t hide all the time. But somedays, I don’t want to hear your voice or type to me while I play! :laughing:

I just mapped the hidechat key to the End key.

Hey what ever works. I rather you block every one than complain about “toxic” behavior online like every one else. That said yeah I can understand not wanting to talk to people. But it does have issues in terms of team work obviously.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I trigger (especially in comp) when no one’s in voice comms. And I don’t play comp with /hidechat on.

Like I said, it’s a rarity but sometimes I just want to play and be left alone. But now that I think about it, I probably should just go to deathmatch FFA when that happens tho…

Disable voice chat too while you’re at it. Saves a lot of headaches unless you actually use it in games.

I think it’s Settings > Social/ Interactions > Top-ish portion… haven’t played in a while though so I don’t remember exactly.

Here I thought I was being useful for once, dang. Oh well.

Exactly. There’s a number of players that want to limit being able to communicate more than necessary (for everyone), when they already have the tools to do it for themselves.
