I just want the game I bought at release, rather than the one the players complained for.
I just want to know what genius thought that average gamers were going to be able to physically and technically master over 30 heroes in order to constantly be swapping to the most optimal pick in any given scenario as if that was a viable way to plan their game franchise, like - wat.
RPG and MOBA enthusiasts.
The problem isn’t that it’s rushed, which it definitely wasn’t. The problem is that the DEVs were far too naive to think that the playerbase would be able to figure things out without any supervision.
the tutorial kinda sucks all things considered.
It kinda does what it needs to, if it were to explain how to actually play the game then the DEVs would not only have to define the “correct” way to play but also make the tutorial last hours.
As far as I know most RPG games have like 6-10 ‘classes’ of characters with specializations beyond them, long building and running gameplay scope which is pretty different from say mastering the mechanical requirements to do X Y and Z in quick succession with relative accuracy, like - managing to reliably land your sleep dart on a nano’ed genji, for instance. That’s quite a bit different than Moba or RPG games, just by nature of it being much more ‘FPS’ in it’s design and requirements of the players. Plus, most MOBA players I know tend to focus on about 3-6 characters, which is the same of what they do in Overwatch; I don’t think the actual-average-Gamer has enough time or energy to master 20+ heroes, let alone 30+.
its just bare bones considering how the game has evolved and seeing how on top of the tutorial itself being lackluster we also have a really bad training range.
the bots there aren’t really accurate depictions of enemys as their critboxes are the size of torbjorns if not bigger.
This !!! All of this so much. Overwatch was this goofy out of control chaotic but unique and fun fps moba hybrid with whacky abilities. Now it’s losing what made it so appealing.
Overwatch is different to what most players want in a way. There are what 40 million players.
Any one direction the devs go, we’re going to see at least 10,000 people unhappy.
The game is different to what a lot of players were hoping for it because you just can’t make something that is just outright universal.
Especially with OW, we have a lot of FPS players who want the game to be more like a traditional shooter and then we have a lot of MOBA players who want the game to be more like other MOBA’s.
Some players want to only play comp and others just like the more casual modes.
The community in general has come from various different walks of life and they want different things from the same product - I imagine even within the dev team some changes have gone through and there is a dev on the side thinking “man, wish that could have stayed the same” and then another dev thinking “so glad this is going in”.
Like some players will think “well the game is balanced because it has a symmetrical round system” while other players might believe its unbalanced because “some heroes are not viable to pick”
A lot of this stuff is perspective and as such you’re always going to find someone with an opposite opinion.
Even without ult systems that in essence is not how video games work. We play them for fun. I was a counter strike player before that, they have no ults, no unique hero designs or personalities, just blank canvases with access to the same arsenal but even there we had people going for the same guns most of the time, because those are the ones they considered most fun and enjoyable. Imagine walking around with a pump action shotgun on a map where the enemy has high ground and access to sniper rifles. maining was always inevitably going to be a part of a game like overwatch.
See the problem with the game is
goes on to list things off my player skill and opinions rather than stats and data like a good forum whiner
And that is why Overwatch will always fail to be what we want in a game
You’re not lying. I really hate it when I can’t play what I want because I have to fill a team composition or because I’m being countered. I wish all the heroes were balanced based on a FFA environment, make everyone stand strong against each other.
honestly… thats the most common reason for complaints i would guess. of course on paper you can make such a game as overwatch and it can work, but then you leave the human component out. humans fall in love with characters, and project themselves onto them. so whenever theres the slightest imbalance it will be perceived as unfair not only in a competitive sense, but in a very emotional sense.
All very true. Well written post, have a like from me.
Especially because tanks creating space via offense - that is, being disruptive - is easy, but we need more shield tanks. Urgently.
And it’s not like ideas aren’t plentiful:
- A relatively squishy 200-250 HP hero who can create multiple barrier shields at range.
- Someone who gives both themselves and other players temporary strong personal shields which can regenerate, but will expire after a short time. A bit like Brigitte’s armor boost, just much stronger and for shields. Probably very short range to prevent crazy ult combos.
- A tank holding a “stealth shield”, it doesn’t actually block damage, rather it prevents enemies from seeing anyone behind it other than the tank (who has a personal shield on top of a lot of HP).
- For another protective tank idea, someone who can “taunt”. Now this wouldn’t force the attacker, rather it reduces their damage massively unless they’re attacking the taunting tank.
- A tron-cycle style shield deployer, leaving a trail behind them - always - that shields, but the total length is finite.
Really fun as a casual game. But weirdly pushed as Pro league.
Still fun but I have sympathy for the pros
There’s clearly been a divide since day one, especially when the forced OWL came around. Blizz wants to forget all about the characters that don’t make flashy plays or draw in the large crowds, while many of us just want a game with versatile selection and fun characters.
Killed sym trying to make an owl hero now she’s stuck in limbo and no one wants to touch her
Your opinions don’t represent the Overwatch community as a whole, especially when it comes to balance and 222. Dva was nerfed because of the metas she is in, it’s not like the devs aren’t working on balancing the game
