I feel like soldier is not doing enough dmg like he did last season, I main soldier and i feel like something is off, any1 or any discussion about it?
I just think people have gotten that much better with more skilled heroes that kill faster.
You need to improve your aim, soldier can be a carry pick still in your elo. Above masters he is not that strong because there are too many beefy targets and he stills has to deal with armor and ults that counter him. When dva and armor get nerfed he wil be stronger.
You can duo with a zen or ana to heal you and burn targets faster too.
The problem with Soldier in is that while he does reliable and consistent damage, the game almost requires you to be able to burst a target down very quickly to prevent them from being healed back to full. Soldier is in a better place now than he was last season, with the buff to his spread, and the incoming nerfs to armor damage reduction.
I think the main issue with Soldier is that like a lot of characters in Overwatch, he’s deceptively hard to play correctly. There are a lot of things you have to know to play him effectively, and have a ton of game sense to know where you need to be and when.
A few examples of this that I have learned while playing Soldier for several seasons…
- Take the high ground. You are at such an advantage when you have the high ground, and you have self-sustain so you don’t really have to worry too much about heals.
- You gain ult charge by healing others. I know this kinda goes counter to having Soldier on the high ground, away from his team, but yeah, if you use your healing to heal others, you gain additional ult charge. Keep in mind, if you are near a ledge, you can drop it off the ledge to the ground below since he places it in front of himself, rather than where he is standing.
- Burst Fire. This isn’t as important anymore now that he can hit 7-8 shots reliably before his spread gets too crazy. This is really only important for targets at a distance. If you’re shooting at a tank, you can generally spray them since their hit boxes are so large, unless you are aiming for all headshots.
- Soldier can absolutely break shields. He’s one of the better barrier busters in the game. However, your focus should be picking off targets behind the barrier since you will most likely have the high ground advantage.
- Drop your biotic field at the start of a duel. If you are about to get into a duel with someone, you’ll likely want to drop your biotic field at the start, rather than when you get low. Yes, it heals for 40hp/sec, but in the current state of the game, that might not be enough to save you if you’re already low, plus it takes time to put it down, time you could be using to fight. Instead, use it to give yourself more sustain throughout the fight early on.
- Drop your biotic field before you use Tactical Visor. This allows you to spray your full ult without worrying about being burst down, or having to take time away from your ult to drop it midway through.
- Use your Hydra Rockets to finish off a target instead of engaging with it. It’s Soldier’s only real burst, and it does a lot of damage, to the point most people don’t expect it. If you don’t think you can hit it reliably, shoot it at the target’s feet, it does have splash damage.
- Learn to rocket jump. Some people will say this isn’t necessary, and it might not be, but the ability to get to places where people don’t expect Soldier to be is very advantageous. And if you can do it reliably, it’s an incredibly useful tool for escaping, assuming you have more than 20hp.
Anywho, these are just lessons I learned when I was mainly playing Soldier. Hopefully they help. Good luck!
Thanks for some new points I didn’t know, I really like soldier above all the other picks, since I have high latency, well, it works really nice for me.
Causation not necessarily correlation. Matches are so random I don’t think you can say with massive confidence that one account is easier than another.
I disagree tbh. One of my biggest regrets was dropping soldier (my best dps) for McCree when he fell out of the meta. I’ll play soldier every now and then and still perform quite well - although once the armour starts piling up I’ll have to swap. Any hero in this game is viable, it’s just that you have to be extra skilled to make them work.
Depends on enemy comp. If they have Brig or especially Brig + 2 other healers, don’t play soldier. But if they’re playing rein/Zarya on a map with a lot of high ground just camp high ground and rain damage.
OP burst damage therfore OP healing therefore OP tanks therfore goats.
