I’m playing Apex Legends as I type this, which is essentially a hero-based battle royale. It just got me thinking, could Overwatch get this treatment…?
i fell into a burning ring of fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
went down down down, and the flames went up higher
And it burns burns burns…
no, it wouldnt, next question
The ring of fire! The ring of fire…
No. Overwatch heroes are too simple and not at equal footing. Apex Legends and other BR games have gameplay variety from the fact that you can use multiple weapons.
Overwatch heroes are not designed to work like this. They all have small niches that they are effective in.
Think about it.
If you have a big map, Widowmaker is unstoppable.
Rein is useless all the time.
Mercy is just mandatory because she can rez people.
Teams without supports are instantly throwing.
Etc. This is the same reason Overwatch has no competitive mainstream version of team deathmatch.
You raise some good points there.
Not unless you want everyone to be Soldier 76 with the ability to pick up and use Widowmaker’s, Mc Cree’s, Tracer’s, Ashe’s, Reaper’s or any other hero with a gun’s gun. There’d be no tanks and no healers. You’d have to stock up on small and large health packs and some sort of shields (health shields, not the large blue translucent rectangles people stand behind). It would hardly be recognizable as Overwatch as we know it.
They’re be no supports the way they’re currently designed in Overwatch. Lifeline in Apex is balanced because her healing drone is a deployable slow to heal ability and her shield when picking up allies can be flanked.
There’s a battle royale mode in the workshop.
yes, imagine competitive 3v3 except 30 teams, a much bigger map, and players can loot ammo/health packs
Overwatch is already a battle royale. It’s a test of who can be the last one standing after the Hanzo on your team leaves the match
There is no reason why Battle Royale couldn’t work. At its core, BR is a one-man army elimination game. As a shooter, Overwatch should be compatible with BR. Heroes have niches, yes, but if you have 3 to a team, the team is supposed to cover each member’s individual weaknesses. Furthermore, you give players more flexibility by having “potions”. Potions are items that initiate Echo’s ult when consumed. Potions can be looted. Other items that can be looted: “Auras”. Auras provide a buff over a certain amount of time such as heals, armor, or damage boost. Different auras stack with each other, but duplicate auras do not and the extras are held in reserve. When players die, they drop their reserve auras and potions.
Overwatch Battle Royale sounds quite intriguing
Why is their an obsession with battle royale?

People would complain about Hog and McCree. ![]()

At least it was someone from the original thread.
Maybe I should go back and resurrect one of my ancient threads…
