His ult doesn’t need to be a guaranteed kill, not all ultimates need to obliterate an entire team just because it’s an ultimate. His ult can be an amazing tool for zoning out a large area, sniping out the difficult Pharah/Mercy and can occasionally wipe out an entire team or even half of it. Not to mention how easily and quickly a skilled McCree can obtain Deadeye to begin with.
His ultimate is fine as it is, and it doesn’t need changes to be made into a Push Q To Win.
If McCree had any kind of mobility, Dead Eye could potentially become an interesting option. As it stands Dead Eye is fairly useless against teams with tanks and snipers still functioning. People almost always have enough time to avoid Dead Eye damage unless you somehow surprise them.
It’s pretty bad but I don think it’s useless anymore. Deadeye can be useful on defense and refunding it for a reload plus Roll’s reload means triple FtH.
I’ve been going back to playing him as my main and I think there are a couple options that wouldn’t make him OP.
One main problem is that there are TOO many options to counter his ult. You can block it, you can cc him, you can outright kill him. The 3rd being one we could probably fix so it doesn’t take only 2 or 3 people reacting instantly and killing him with simple body shots when they hear " It’s hiiiiighhh noooooooooooooonnnnnnnnn". The main reason is that he has to be in line of sight to be killed in order to land deadeye. He’s trying to hit normally multiple targets which puts him at a guaranteed disadvantage if the other players have anywhere close to decent reaction time. He has to wait to shoot, they can shoot instantly. It barely takes anything against multiple chars to drop 200hp. (assuming he’s at full health when he does it)
My suggestion would be to jack his HP up to 500 when he ults and back to 200 afterwards. This way the options would be cut down to CC or Block. A lot of times he’s just such an easy target during Deadeye that as mentioned above if only 1 or 2 people react and just simply kill him it’s enough to stop his ult. I think this is the preferred counter as it’s widely available to any comp with any reaction time whatsoever. With a HP boost he would actually cause them to have to scatter in most cases without a CC or block option. I think it would really help. Junkrat can hide. Pharah’s ult is doing damage .5 seconds after she does it. Soldier retains full mobility during his to chase people and angles around corners etc. Mccree’s ult just isn’t the powershot that warrants him to be 100% crippled during the activity.
I think a 500hp + full heal would have not only utility but allow him to zone people better as well since they cant just body shot him or 1 head shot him out of a 100% ultimate that’s already making him a sitting duck. Also the utility of blowing your ult to heal up when there are no targets (as there often are given the set up he needs) would be a great addition to his kit without changing his gameplay style too much.
Not even proplayers are able to time these abilities to dodge high noon so they’re only useful for positioning.
You can also just not shoot into Deflect or Wraith Form and instead wait them out
In other words you just listed a lot of tanks and their general defensive abilities that work against about everything with the addition of Mei whose kit is entirely defensive abilities. Getting headshotted isn’t really something you can consider as a counter because it counters 80% of the whole roster and taking dashing into consideration is quite far fetched.
His ultimate is in balance with his kit since his main focus is basic attacks. Somebody like Genji has one of the better ultimates because shurikens are rather weak relative to other main sources of DPS. Nothing wrong here
Tracer’s recall will position her 90% of the time where his ult wont even land so I have no idea what you’re smoking.
Moria’s teleport is normally used to dash around a corner thus negating his ult altogether and keeping her safe during the process.
I’m not even going to address the rest of what you said it’s so off. I will admit that causing those characters to scatter is useful however. You will normally die from someone else on the team if you are trying to time your ult to hit one of these two anyway.
Dash that resets even with assists because reasons.
God mode every 8 secs
Double jump that makes you super hard to hit
Wall climb because why not.
Dragn blade, the most broken ult in the game among dps, cannot be hacked, blocked, or countered with shields and matrix, that counter 90% of the stuff others dps have.
But yes, mccree needs a nerf before making hs ult viable.
Welcome to OW forums where nobody has a clue, developers included.
If you use it with full support (dmg boost, shield) you can do some real damage. If the enemy team knows they can’t get you, they ARE going to clear out. Because even Rein’s shield doesn’t want to be up when the fully charged Dead-Eye goes off.
