Lucio had it coming, he is the only hero who provides speed, and he can provide it to his entire team at once. On top of this, he has one of the best ultimates in the game and a short cd boop ability.

His ultimate was trash until a buff not too long ago…

However, it does seem any kind of significant movement speed boost Blizzard just can’t balance around. They had to remove it from Ana’s ultimate fairly quickly, now they are gutting it on Lucio too.

Wonder if any other heroes will ever buff movement speed buffs in the future or if Blizzard just going to back away from the concept entirely at this point?

There’s a fine line there. On one hand, yes, any form of speed boost has become a balancing nightmare this point in the game (sort of reminds me of TF Pyro where it might never be just right.) Yet, Lucio is the only support character to specialize in it, so taking away that one thing that makes him different would be harsh.

This wouldn’t be too bad if Mei was used more often to counter Lucio. Mei is technically the only character that slows/debuffs speed, but her kit doesn’t really effect speedster outside of tanks.
