I think the simplest voice line in the book was the most underwhelming.
“Ey”
But I suppose it fits her character. Informal, and nonchalant, with a side of cocky.
And even then I still love the character they built from her voice acting

Also, NO.
But then FemShep (I mean Hale) is THE voice actor for me.
I mean I have played through the entire Mass Effect trilogy 13 times. From 1 to 3.
I have NEVER finished a playthrough with the male voice actor. Hale all the way.
Incidentally Ashe will be the first Hitscan character in OW I will try to learn how to play.
I think the voice acting just fits her absolutely perfectly.
I just want to imagine Hale downing a bottle of beer every time before recording lines for Ashe. XD
That is probably why they have picked her but as far as I have heard she is actually Bulgarian so it is not her native language either even if it is similar.
But anyway, if they have chosen those VAs, that is probably what they were looking for. A little bit of overacting helps distinguishing the characters.
Funny that you mention two characters for fake accent who are both voiced by people with a genuine one, LOL.
And to me both do sound genuine. Now as a Hungarian I had plenty of exposure to Russian (also been to Russia) so I can tell right away that Zarya’s accent sounds 100% genuine. I mean hell, some people I met in Russia spoke English just like her.
Then she also says lines in Russian with a genuine native accent - she even quotes Chekhov and Gagarin.
Oh yeah, as you say, accents are emphasized intentionally in voice acting to make them clear. The voice needs to tell a story on its own, and having a slight and unidentifiable accent doesn’t tell much to the audience.
Play the long one for Volskaya industries to hear speak native Russian:

Sadly the Gagarin one is missing from that page but here it is:

But WE like “yelling” and “frazzled”.
Add more yelling pls.
Ashe is perfect the way she is.
Exactly. She’s always walked the line between ‘damn, that was badass’ and ‘ok that just made me actually cringe’.
Hale’s only ever been ‘subtle’ in smaller roles and not everyone loves the over the top delivery. I do, though.
Ukrainian. And the official language in Ukraine is Russian. That said she is probably speaking Russian with a heavy Ukrainian accent; I can’t tell (Just like non-Swedish speakers can’t tell Brig is speaking Stockholm accent and not Gothenburg accent, where supposedly she is from, in the game).
She is an expert at both hamming it up, and keeping it low key. Some actors can do both, some can do neither.
But Ashe is about as over the top as Rein (or McCree). They are walking stereotypes and NEED to ham it up, while a character like Mercy is supposed to be more subtle.
Zarya’s accent is 100% on point, I can vouch as a person who has Russian customers at work. It might sound as a stretch but even if they speak my language ( Greek ) their accent is just like Zarya’s in game.
Regarding the post, I must admit that I am also not a big fan of Ashe’s voice, but that’s just preferences, it does not have to be about acting skills, I assume.
The way she says ‘I am on fire’ strikes a nerve. I fear that I will not touch this hero for the same reasons I do not play D.Va.
people who own horses have to talk like hicks? Where does this reasoning come from
“Talk like hicks”.
“Nice” one. What do you talk like? a Valley Girl? A mobster?
Why does anyone have to talk like anything? Why not just “standard” “common”?
What do you talk like, buddy?
It didn’t register when I played. Then again I apparently cannot tell southern from texan or georgian (USA). There’s small accent differences I’ve been told but I can NOT hear them. I haven’t played her in a real game but from what I’ve heard in the firing range it’s fine. She sounds twangy like she should as far as i’m concerned.
Her Ashe voice is pretty much stuff she’s done before. It’s a mix of Cat Napy (Xaiolin Showdown) June (Avatar) and Ivy (Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego). She does drama and cheese in these 3 roles. I guess I’m just use to her over the top accents. I think it’s fine.
