Incredibly High Ping Lately

Been having incredibly high ping recently. Usually I would play around 35ms, however recently I’ve been seeing an average of 80-90, spiking between that and 250. It’s impossible to play as I’m lagging around, being forced to the ground midjump, etc. I should also note that speedtests give me over 100 mbps download and 11-12 mbps upload

Looks like this WinMTR was only run for about 21 seconds. Ideally you would want to run it for at least 10 minutes, or the duration of a match where you’re experiencing the issue. This would allow us to get a better picture of what the connection is doing while in a match.

Speedtests aren’t very useful for troubleshooting latency issues unfortunately. Speedtests measure your download/upload bandwidth via a server physically close to your location, so the ping on speed tests will generally be very low. What you do want to use instead is WinMTR since that shows the connection path to the server endpoint.

Thanks for the new test!

Based on what this is showing you’re getting around 7-8% packet loss to your ISP’s network, and 405ms latency spikes on that 2nd “hop”. The connection between the PC and router (192.168.0.1) but once the connection leaves the router and hits 10.75.135.1 that’s when the issues start. This kind of packet loss and latency spikes would definitely cause what you’re describing in Overwatch.

I’d recommend contacting Cox so they can investigate further for you. They should be able to signal test the router from their end and verify the issue. If they don’t find any issues from testing the router when you call them you may have to request they send out a technician to check the lines/devices beyond your router.

Hopefully they can get it cleared up quickly so you can get back to a stable connection!
