I’m sorry you have to go through this. As someone who is Ukranian myself, I too have an accent and I am still learning how to speak and write english, and people will mock me for English being my second language, which was highly disrespectful.

Right? Sometimes I go to the EU servers just to hear awesome accents in my games. The 400 ping is worth it. XD
I noticed this happens a lot of times. Everytime there is a Russian teammates, someone tries to be funny in voice chat and says the stereotypical Russian words. It is sad indeed.
Last night I had someone go off into a racist tirade against me literally for being Italian and saying my family liked to eat pizza. According to them real Italians dont eat pizza because its “too American”. I got culturally gatekept against my own culture over food.
Nothing surprises me in this community anymore.
I know, right? Can you imagine if it was that simple and Blizzard had more than enough money to do it?

Racism is a disease. I have no problem with Russians or Slavs or any group. People who are racist and play Overwatch are in the wrong place. I will play with you in QP if you want.
Thank you for your attention to this topic! And not to me alone, but also other players with accents or just people who for example are asked to change the hero. Especially the same system spoils the game for many players who play on non-popular characters such as for example Torb or Sym.
These players play on these characters perfectly, win games, but they are reported just for their peak and in the end they get a ban. This is absolutely not normal, the more it contradicts what Jeff Kaplan says in his videos. But in fact, everything is done on the contrary and people are banned for nothing!
And the trolls just keep masquerading as they play for Hanzo and just do not write anything in the chat and do not sit in the voice chat. For it is quite a report to those who ask them to change the hero or start playing with the team
I get it sucks, but really pleading about it on the forums won’t do much.

I’m a trans girl, currently 15. I’ll bet you a million dollars after my transition, because of my voice going to be a bit different than a normal girls, I’ll get made fun of. Simply mentioning I’m trans to certain people if the subject comes up I’ll get made fun of.
It’s just something you gotta deal with, sorry. I’m not justifying it or anything, but you just gotta move on.
One would think that in a game designed around heroes uniting from all over the globe to combat a common crisis, people would not stoop to petty behaviors such as teasing people for their accents and nationality.

This needs to stop, especially in a game full of diversity. I remember, someone playing mccree had a noose spray, then had placed it over my cute lucio spray. I was horrified, so I removed my lucio spray, then some sick white dude on the mic said “Oh omg that was so racist, lucio can you put your spray back on the noose?” I didn’t even bother putting that spray back up there. I bet some people even do it to the doomfist spray. Most people notice my blatant accent instantly but I haven’t been bullied over it (yet, and now I stopped using vc anyway).
It’s as I always say:
Overwatch’s biggest design flaw is expecting people who hail from the gaming community to actually attempt to live up to its ideals.
Next time it happens, take screenshots of the conversation if it’s in text chat and open a ticket, hopefully a robot…erm…game master will consider your request and look into the matter.
Besides that you can report, mute and hide chat.
This is very common in the OW community, sadly. It comes from elitism and support of censorship. The report system is very abusable and Blizzard will never have a real human being read your appeal. If you want a friendly community, I don’t suggest this game in the slightest. I’m sorry. A lot of us are in the same boat, despite different reasons for being treated that way.
I made a post saying if they don’t do something about abusing reports along side the endorsement feature there is literally no reason for endorsement to exist aside from giving trolls something to unfairly take away.
Victimizing one’s self over irrelevant banter is also a problem.
