Improval parental Controlls idea

Having an option to only communicate with people on a friends list isn’t just something kids could use. It may not be used often by most, but it’s still a good option to have for those who want it.

If your 16 YEAR OLD SON cant handle online trash talk than he needs to take time off the game.

i know i cant but comeon its a bloody game… every game exept this one has at least one option to mute all chat permanently and go on with your friends on discord but overwatch doesnt… so im trying to find a sollution… since the OVERWATCH DEVS said they wont implement additional mute options than already in the game…

He is 16 thats an adult

in what country? in the netherlands he isnt an adult untill 18… but still it shouldnt matter… if a person wants to back-off the chat they should be able to no relyable option is given in overwatch… every other game does

Sorry, but they probably dont even take suggestions from here.

By law its 18 but 16 and he cant handle trash talk theres a issue

sadly there is no other platform to ask since they disabled their forums on the blizzard suggestions forum… and the support told me to post here

Can’t he simply make a group with only his friends and use the group chat?

There is an option in the game’s setting to disable auto-joing team chat. If necessary, you disable team chat specifically and allow group chats only.

If your son wants to be in team chat but doesn’t want to experience the toxicity, then you’re fresh out of luck as no parental controls will fix that. If it’s his friends who want to be in team chat and he only wants to talk to them, it might be worth your son bring these concerns up to them and requesting that don’t join team chat.

Even though most of the settings are the same, I’m console player and therefore I don’t know how chat messages work or if there’s a way to disable non-group messages.

In the mean time, if you can’t stop this, I might recommend playing with your son or providing him positive reinforcement while he plays in response to those messages. Try not to coddle him but ensure that you remind him not to take those messages too seriously.

Oh wait, I totally forgot about team chat…Im on console so there isnt any chat there, but if your son stacks with his friends and they have mics you could disable chat since they’ll talk through voice, or just use team chat.
Sorry idk how thisworks.

no… there is no option like that for TEXT chat… its voice chat only -_-’ those options are for voice chat only… hence why i ask for options simmilar for TEXT…

Do he and his friends have microphones? It might be worth using them if they do.

If not, then they might want to try an external messaging system and disable Overwatch’s chat entirely. Text messages or something like Discord or Skype might be helpful for that. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to get his friends to help you with that, as they need to have it too.

I know I’m not being very productive to the ongoing conversation about implementing the ability to disable team chat messages, but hopefully I’ve suggested a work-around that might be helpful to your son while we wait for Blizzard to implement this or as a back-up in case they never do.

as i said earlyer there littarly are no options to mute the chat all together lmao the only thing close was blizzard mute in parental controlls but the blizzard chat mute also makes it unable to play with friends… if that was not the case i would be happy, chat disabled, strangers gone, toxic behavior also gone and happy playtime with friends sadly not the case!

Oh, I didn’t see that, sorry.

I’m a bit busy at the moment but I’ll do some digging for you later and report back with anything I find. But in the chance I don’t get back to you, assume I’ve found nothing.

Hopefully, we can find a solution.

sadly i’ve considered the options already… the problem is text chat because voice chat is arranged really good!, you can mute yourself, specific people or just the entire voice chat! why isnt text chat like this??? since you can mute specific people in text but you cant mute yourself or made your parents mute you if your parents do mute you you cant even play with friends anymore… so dumbfounded really

The only thing i can suggest is that you could block text chat and voice chat in the game and use disccord with friends to chat

as stated earlyer… there is no way to disable the text chat sadly… if we could we would have done that! sadly ignorance is taking a hold of the devs

Alright, here’s what I found.

This is an old forum post about disabling both text and voice chat:

These replies in particular might be of use to you. I’ve highlighted in bold the points about text chat.

“You can’t mute the messages that appear as a result of voice commands (“I need healing!”, ect), but you can disable Match-Chat and Team-Chat by pressing P and clicking on the Orange and Blue speech bubble boxes respectively. The blue headphone button will disable Team-Voice, if you didn’t already know that one.”

Ctrl+Shift+C to hide text chat. Options>Sound>Voice Chat Volume=0 (to block any incoming voice chat)/ Voice Chat Mic Volume=0 (to avoid accidentally turning your mic on with no way to know that people can hear you.) Hope this helps, Good luck.”

Let me know if this helped.

You can disable match chat and team chat and still have group and whispers though… What you’re asking for already exists, even if it’s isn’t permanent and needs done every time he restarts overwatch. While the option might be nice, it’s so niche that it most likely just isn’t going to happen.

i know about those options… thing is you have to do that everytime you boot the game thus not relyable since we have been doing that for 2 years now as explained above its rather a chore just as intended like a dev of overwatch said hence why i asked to be a option like that in parental controlls! @pezlex this is also the same anser for you
