Imagine if each character had a couple missions šŸ˜‰

Just imagine with me here for a minute. Going into a menu, choosing a character you think you would like, looking at their abilities, bios, and then this…

Playing a very small story mode, like a couple missions, fleshing out the character for the lore and giving a small training session with that character😱

I know this will never happen, but I’m just dreaming for a minute lolšŸ˜‚

Take Mercy for expample, you choose to give her a try, you start out with her story missions. Maybe give a small cutscene, or even a comic to start off the mission.

It could put you in the shoes of current mercy, after Overwatch fell, helping out where she can. So the mission could be on a battlefield of sortsā˜ŗļø

Give it a small story arc, teach you the basics, some great voice acting, boom, short and simple but effectivešŸ˜†

I know a lot of you would think this is a waste, and would rather have a full campaign. That would be epicšŸ‘

But this was just a cool idea I thought, I know I would go crazy with it, each character having different stories.

It would make new characters even more exciting, and would just show the diversity of the cast and how different they all are.

Heck yeah. I’d absolutely love this! Imagine the lore for it. Soldier 76, Zenyatta, Genji and Hanzo… maybe even some Reaper lore.

i’m kinda hoping for a Super Smash Bros Brawl Type campaign, with a bunch of missions where only certain heroes are playable, but then by the end, you can pick the entire roster.

I think it would be cool, especially if they were based on lore. I can already think of a few:

Soldier 76: Breaking into Helix Security to get his Pulse Rifle. The mission starts with you getting busted and you need to fight your way out.

Hanzo: The Shimada elders have spoken and you need to chase down Genji through the streets of Tokyo as he flees Hanamura temple to assasinate him.

D.Va: Piloting a group of mechs, D.Va and her first response team go up against the giant omnic that’s risen from the East China Sea and has approached Korea.

McCree: Alongside fellow Deadlock Gang members, McCree breaks into a military base to steal their weapons in order to sell them on the black market.

Winston: Stuck on Horizon Lunar Colony, Winston has to make it to the escape pod unscathed. A lot of rebelling gorillas and animals are trying to stop him from getting the news of the Lunar Colony to Earth.

Reinhardt: Battle alongside Baldrich during the Omnic Crisis!

Mercy: You find yourself in the middle of a warzone and have to support troops on the frontlines, as well as healing up any injured civilians caught in thge crossfire.

The lore gives us so many little solo stories we could do. I think it would be a great way to show off hero mechanics too.

I would love this! I would prefer a whole campaign but this would be cool as well! I’d imagine the campaign would be similar to MKX’s (each chapter is a different character)

Imagine, Fighting the Kaiju in Korea, or infiltrating the Shimada Compound, or breaking out of the prison complex.

That’d be nice, tbh. They could use it as a character training exercise, first and foremost. Then maybe work on releasing a ā€œseriousā€ version of the mission every couple of months.

Like for Mercy, the story is her and Genji going into the remains of a destroyed building to look for survivors.

Start: Genji finds an entrance across collapsed ground, 15m from ground level. This is where we learn to use Guardian Angel.

Genji is hurt, Angela does her sassy doctor thing, Genji plays it off, she forces the LMB beam on him anyway.

Next they travel forward, a jungle of cables is in the way. Genji Swift Strikes through it easily. Then another jungle of cables, this time, with pipes and intertwined. Angela suggests on boosting Genji to help him clear it using Swift Strike.

Genji is surprised by swinging rubble, which knocks him out. Angela tries to approach to use Rez, but 2 malfunctioning flying drones ram into her to KB her from Genji’s Rez area if she gets close. They shoot at her dealing 4dps (1 bullet ever .25 seconds) and take 5 shots to kill. This is where we learn to use our gun. When she destroys the last one, it spirals out of control and breaks itself against her - dealing enough damage to leave her at 1HP. This is where she learns about her self-healing and also how to Rez now that the coast is clear.

Then the next portion would be hovering down a dangerous assortment of electrical wires (Genji ofc double jumps/swift strikes over it), learning about her hover mechanic.

Finally, a boss fight of sorts that forces her to use her Ultimate. To heal multiple trapped people who are trapped, giving them energy to stand up and run away while Genji holds off malfunctioning drones/talons. She learns about infinite ammo pistol and is the one to kill a few annoying flying drones and drops the big boss herself.

End with a Harmacist joke from Genji. Story over.

It’d be more for learning to use her and some ā€œloreā€/character interactions/seeing characters in the fields when they’re NOT fighting each other randomly.

Yep, same. Battleborn, in all its spectacular failure, actually did this quite well. You were introduced to the hero by doing a short PvE story campaign and then you could rock that character in PvP.

Imagine being able to play through the Sombra animated short or the Reinhardt animated short. That would be so much fun.

I’m working on a video exploring this! Both missions & tutorials for each character would be a huge help to both the game & the lore :D.

Just one idea I’ll give you here is Roadhog invading the Australian Omnium back in his ALF days.
You can teach the hook mechanics by getting him to pull a lever across a gap to lower a bridge, or to pull a particularly deadly Omnic off a platform for instance.
You could have Bruce fight alongside him, giving Roadhog his first encounter with his Take a Breather canisters. You could then teach the uses of this in various ways, from healing, to damage reduction & body blocking through further scenarios.
Finally, his ultimate could be used to bust through a giant door to escape, knock back an unbeatable wave of enemies or to break through the protection on the Omnium’s core.

The idea of combining lore, sometimes even very simple stuff (I also had the idea mentioned above of S76 stealing the Pulse Rifle) with things like tutorials just makes both elements better if it’s done right :D.
