I'm not waiting 11+ minutes for a QP match ୧(๑•̀ᗝ•́)૭

I like playing Stadium alot, but I don’t like it enough to be waiting 11-15 minutes for a quickplay/comp match. Every. single. game!

I don’t believe these long queue durations are because of an overall low population within the mode either. I believe this is 100% being caused by there being a massive disparity in what roles players are naturally gravitating towards.

But, why… Why is the support role so insanely popular compared to the DPS role? I mean, we already know why the tank queues are so fast and that’s because tanking just isn’t all that popular, but how does the role that normally sits in the middle of the pack have almost 10x the queue duration of what is typically the most popular role?

Right. I just decided to try it this season and well… yeah it’s not been fun. I can’t even go in to Stadium comp until I get 10 QP wins. I even try switching between console or pc lobbies to see if there is much difference but nada, at this point I just try one or two matches and then do something else…

In normal games I think support is the most popular role too. But slightly over dps, no where near what it is in stadium. They made supports strong in ow2, and much more fun to not be healbots.

Theres just too many good Support roles in Stadium right now. The other reason could be that maybe players are preferring a more non-lethal role in Stadium. Maybe its less stressful to support your team then attacking the enemy team?

I wouldn’t know, so you’ll have to tell me: are there many supports that just healbot and not attack the enemy in Stadium? My guess would have been that it’s more fun to both support and attack since it feels like there’s more to do.

A great question. In my experience, I see more healing than attacking by Supports. I do the same as I prefer to Support my team then to attack and risk being attacked and destroyed by the enemy team. Stadium abilities really enhance Supports healing abilities, for example Juno has an option to shoot healing Hyper Rings (theres also an enemy slow-down Hyper Ring option as well).

I think Supports are a lot more popular because they are inherently more diverse in their builds, as they can branch healing/support and damage/offense.

With offensive playstyles being something most support-players won’t really experience in normal play. Especially the more “healbotty” ones.

Blizzard is not willing to acknowledge that the current implementation of role queue is fundamentally flawed.

To fix this mess, they either have to

  1. Redesign role queue, by redesigning each role to be unique and set a new player count per role accordingly
  2. Scrap role queue altogether and go back to 6v6 open queue as the standard and only serious way of playing OW.

Because the strong DPS heroes are boring and the fun ones are weak. I’m not queueing stadium to play Ashe or Pharah and I’m certainly not playing a weak character into one of those 2.

because a mode with infinite aimbot abilities and limited conventional skill expression is not attractive to the majority of DPS players.

Well, support has 2/3 of their heroes added to Stadium already, and the few that aren’t added yet are probably the least popular ones anyways (aside from Wuyang maybe, but he’s still new). DPS only have a little over half of theirs.

More importantly though, I’d also say building support heroes in Stadium is just more fun than building DPS heroes. Supports can build to find a nice balance between supporting/healing, damage output, and personal survivability. DPS only build for the latter two. Most supports have 2-3 different distinct playstyles through their different builds. While I find with a lot of the Stadium DPS, the optimal way to build them is to just play them the same way you do in the core modes, except now they’re just better at it because of powers.

I see more supports dpsing in Stadium tbh. Like they heal too but a lot of them are mainly just focusing dpsing, unless it’s a Mercy then ofc it’s just healing.

Dps is still the most popular role in Asia for normal games. But I think the NA/EU trend is always different and supports are most popular there.

For Stadium though, support is the most popular role here too. Some people say it could be because the builds are more interesting for support compared to tank/dps. But, who knows.

Perhaps. But splitting the playerbase certainly did not help either.

Third person lets you gaze upon their backsides. Once they add Widowmaker to Stadium, you will notice a massive improvement.

I think stadium, in general, is definitely not as popular as standard quick play and comp. I can reliably queue for any role throughout the day, in the standard modes.

With stadium, I usually have to wait towards the evening/night before I can reliably queue for something. But in the morning? Forget about it.

Stadium’s queues are sitting at like 10+ minutes for any role. They need to have all of the heroes accessible in stadium, so it can reach its fullest potential and cater to everyone.

I could understand this last season because Mercy’s build was insanely fun. But now they removed the thing that made it fun and impactful so I rather not play her when instead I can go tank and have some fun games when my build works. Some games on tank are painful though. Last season was all Mercy unless I was queued with friends on support and this season is all tank. I went from having fun in stadium to dreading having to play it just with one change. Ik the mercy build was op but I wish they just nerfed it instead of removing it or made every character have a build that was op by those standards because it’s fun. It was based around her ultimate and could be shut down by a Solider or Cass ult so it wasn’t like it had 100% uptime and couldn’t be countered like some other builds. Once the tank brig and the tank but also tank busting reaper/Freya come out I just mentally check out because the game is lost.

Is that a new thing with the addition of the qp mode? I guess since I’d played Stadium in in its first two seasons I didn’t have to win qp games first. I could see that requirement for brand new accounts maybe, seems kinda dumb for anyone else though.
