If you don't want people to smurf, stop being rude

Like title says, stop calling people names the ~50% over matches they lose at their rank 'cause the game becomes really stressful to play around your actual rank. I have way more fun whenever I play a few hundred SR below my max because I don’t get called garbage every other match and actually treated like a person. On my highest ranked account I barely even dare to speak in voice any more.

Don’t play competitive then. Whether we like it or not people are always rude in comp. Just because someone ruined it for you, doesn’t mean it’s okay to ruin it for lower ranked players by stomping them.

Meh, if you’re gonna have the mindset that you always call someone names if you lose then I’ll gladly smurf and stomp you. I mainly play the game to have fun, and it’s not when the payoff of losing (like you always will eventually) is to be called garbage. Just get better and be nice.

If you throw, it’s my right as an American to call you any variant of the C word I can think of

go to your settings on overwatch then click social and turn off match, team chat and also don’t join voice

Also that isn’t smurfing btw lol

So… because you find playing at your rank to be “stressful” and “toxic” you choose to Smurf hundreds of sr below your level…

I believe your playing the wrong game dude
This community is well known for being extremely toxic. Get over it
Personally I don’t have a huge problem with smurfs
However they are not fun to play with against or even as (after like 3 games it gets very boring Rolling people below your skill level)

And if your just playing the game for fun
Try qp or arcade
The casual side of the game where from my experience people in general are less toxic

This way you get to have fun
And the sweaty toxic competitive players get to be toxic

(edit: just small typo fix)

OP, don’t even attempt to justify the absolutely unethical plague that is Smurfing for this game.

I mean you can smurf if you want its up to you. People don’t like it, but they can’t anything about it.

Yep, I play Widow at my rank, and I am “hogwater.” I play Widow after Genji helped me climb to nearly silver, and it is, “wow, you are a really good Widow.”

I have never thrown a single game in my life. I have had games where I play the characters I’m usually not comfortable playing at times and have also not been 100% active in coordinating ults together and also sometimes played drunk or while feeling out of shape. Being in those states absolutely make me lose games but I still prefer playing the game, since I enjoy it, instead of just staring into a wall or reading a book.

Then I have one account where I always play at my absolute best and being serious but on that account, every other loss I’m or someone else gets flamed when we receive a loss (which happens roughly 50% of the games). That’s why I prefer playing on my other, slightly less hardcore accounts.

So because people treat you poorly at your rank, you decide to go ruin the games of people below you after they’ve done absolutely nothing?

Imagine actually trying to justify smurfing because you get upset and stressed at your own SR.

 Well, at least the approach [I smurf because…] is (kinda) something new.

So in this thread OP:

-Tells people they “play for fun” while smurfing and ruining the fun of others.
-Tells people not to be rude while committing actions that many consider rude.
-Assumes that players at lower ranks are friendlier. (LOL)
-Basically admits they have way more fun playing against lesser skilled opponents, which does not show a drive to climb or improve. Why even play comp with that mindset? Stick to QP or arcade if you want a low stress environment.

I will always maintain there is absolutely no reason to have a second account for competitive, and doing so ruins the integrity of the mode, screws up matchmaking for other people, and makes it an absolute joke which is why I refuse to participate in it.

Pretty good stuff though. I had a laff.

Cool. So for your fun you ruin the match for 11 others…and the one dude that called you up in an other match is responsible for that? I mean, seriously? Come on…

Can you imagine how unfun it is for the lower tier casuals that do not play enough to force their luck with smurfs? If you got a 50%50 chance to have a smurf in your team or the other team it will need several 100 games before YOUR skill(and not your luck with the smurfs) will actually determine your ranking. How fun is that?
As a result you got many bronze players that should not be down there(but if you got no luck with smurfs, then that’s how it is) which then makes bronze harder than it should be which then makes bronze even worse for new players.

Man, people who deflect are the best. “Now look what you made me do!”

What do you mean " -Assumes that players at lower ranks are friendlier. (LOL)"?
This is my everyday experience and yes, people are nicer when the matches are going better, way nicer. But okay, defend the overall toxicity of the game and then cry when people don’t feel like tryharding every single match in fear of being wished cancer upon if your team loses. And yes, tryharding is mentally exhausting. Maybe the reason why you never reach the high ranks is because you never put in the mental effort.

I think it’s very valid to not enjoy the game when being called trash, yes. As the tank I can’t really control the outgoing burst damage of my team and instead need to rely on coordinating ults to take the objectives. When my team is performing well due to this and are being happy with us winning I enjoy it more. How is that weird? Even when playing at lower SR I do get people calling me trash but it just happens way less, that’s the bitter truth of it.

ofc because we have to be super nice to smurfs “ooh thank you smurf awesome game we just got stomped/forced to stay in spawn but what an awesome game”

God…

Imagine not being able to play against people of your skill because “it’s too stressful and ppl are mean :sob:

People are toxic in all tanks, saying that is the reason you decide to smurf is laughable.

I agree. But the thing is, I mute and report the people who do that, and queue up in my own rank. Most people do the same, because we’re not selfish and don’t think we deserve to have fun and our egos pampered more than other people deserve to have fair matches.

Smurfs are always gonna exist and they don’t affect me one bit, but trying to justify it like this is honestly sad.

It’s not about being nice to smurfs it’s about not being an a**hole to people whenever you lose a single game.

It’s not about my ego. It’s about how it’s exhausting playing to the best of your abilities game after game and still getting stuff thrown at you, or someone else getting stuff thrown at them. The game, while being really fun, is exhausting as it is. Playing Rein, having ults and different situations in mind, trying to always be one step ahead - and then still getting being called a noob, as if I am always the sole reason we lose. Sure, I still play the game, enjoy the game but alot of days I’m not mentally strong enough to even perform at my highest peak and to not throw the games at my main SR, and getting called trash while doing it, I prefer having a higher chance of winning - and nicer teammates - on a smurf account. Of course I still get called trash when playing on those accounts but it’s also easier to brush off. That’s just how it is.
