“Decent” is not worth farming for though, hence why using damage boost is worth more in higher tiers.
Idk I’ve been a GM/T500 Mercy since season 4 of OW1, so I guess i’ll take your word for it. We just play optimally.
what kind of indicator? A number which tells you how many hits were necessary with damage boost to kill a target above a certain threshold which was not possible without damage boost? This sounds a little bit too much for the scoreboard?
Okay, I never heard asking for me to farm Valk as much as they asked for Nano, so I mostly damage boosted my way in Diamond/Masters. People barely cared if I had Valk or not and left it completely at my own discretion when and if to use it. I guess it’s a different game higher up.
I’d rather not further encourage the pocket a dps all game play style.
This is due to the very different nature of Ana and Mercy. Ana is never boosting your teammate’s damage outside of ult, while Mercy’s single target damage boost potential never changes. While you may not hear people ask for a Valk to combo with another ult, you will hear people ask for Mercy’s dmg boost as they ult. If you can, you should be boosting Ults like Ram, 76, Blade, etc, and the coordination necessary to do that is much easier than hitting a Nano with a super long ult recharge cd. Nano gives you 1 opportunity every couple of minutes or so; Mercy gives constant dmg boost opportunity.
I mean, I did do that lol. Maybe I haven’t made my initial point very clear - my point was that if people want damage boost pocketing to not be as viable (while also not wanting to just nerf it) the best way is to make other parts of her kit worth more using. Hence increasing the value of healing, without actually increasing heal numbers, would be changing the ult to something more desirable to farm. Currently, in general, the perception seems to be that Valk is not worth farming compared to other ults (which doesn’t mean it’s bad, just not attractive enough).
I apologize if my point is still confusing.
Absolutely not. Giving more ult charge just means more pocketing, and I’m tired of heroes being played in only one way to be effective.
I am entirely serious
Not only is it a powerful ult, it is arguably THE most versatile ult of them all
A classic case of you read first paragraph and didn’t read the rest hahaha
In short - no. Long answer: nooooooooooooo.
Remove the damage boost entirely, remove rez, maybe bring back the old ow1 ult (with a cap of 3 people rezzed). But I’d rather see mercy deleted from the game.
Actually, you are half-right. I wrote that when I read the first paragraph and kept it when I read the rest because I was not satisfied with what you propsed.
I do not think that Mercy should see the health bars of an enemy she did not do damage, too. Neither should any other hero who boosts damage (especially not Zen).
And, it rly does not matter to see how close your ally was to kill someone if they did not die.
An indicator that the enemy only died because you boosted damage, would be better I guess but weird to implement.
What if you boosted a Soldier and he shot an enemy enough times that they dropped to 118 HP, so the Hanzo of your team can finish them off with within the next 2 seconds with a bodyshot? I would credit all 3 players for that tbh
You have to cherry pick to find examples of valk being an impactful ult though
Yet every Mercy player is against shifting power away from her damage boost, any time anyone suggests it there is wrath.

Problem is the only way it seems mercy can not be a pocket bot is if they nerf that playstyle and shift power somewhere else in her kit. But I think a lot of Mercy players want to have their cake and eat it too. They want something else super buffed to be more dominant than the pocket playstyle but still want it as a second option. Doesn’t work that way.
Except it does work that way, and we know it works that way because Mercy’s damage boost hasn’t changed at all since OW1 launched and yet she did not become a pocket bot until after rez and valk got gutted. She was even, briefly, not a pocket bot in Overwatch 2 when her heals were buffed.
Mercy is a 15m range hero who can do exactly one thing at a time. She physically cannot be hard-pocketing her Ashe and triage healing her team or farming for ult at the same time. So any change that incentivizes her to spend more time healing and more time moving has a baked in nerf to her damage boost uptime. And any effort to nerf damage boost when she’s already spending way less time damage boosting is… kind of meaningless, don’t you think?
Like I literally wouldn’t care if they gutted damage boost after making Mercy a stronger triage healer, because I’d be too busy triage healing, lol.
Why? Literally if you aren’t boosting you’re throwing.
Which Mercy players have you watched? Nearly every one I have have suggested: nerfing it down to 20% (saying really only ults should have anything greater), putting it on a meter (but still allow to use it without needlessly healbotting in exchange), or some other restrictions like head shots/critical shots.
Really most just don’t want her flow messed with.

Literally if you aren’t boosting you’re throwing.
Adapt to win. Don’t only boost. None of the best Mercy players only boost.
No one said only boost.

Not boosting = throwing. Healing = not boosting. Res = not boosting.
