So you agree that Mercy with Mass res was NOT meta. Is that correct?
If we are to agree to that, what data do you have that proves that Mercy with Mass res will make her a must pick in this current state? Are you playing an iteration of Mercy with Mass rez in this current meta that backs your claims? Or are you just making assumptions on things that never happened?
If Mercy wasn’t meta back then with Mass rez - how would she be a must pick with it now?

She wasn’t meta back then, but everyone hated playing against her because her ult had no counterplay.
Look, after pre-HPS nerf Mercy,it’s not rocket science to imagine what Mass Rez would do to the game with 55HPS and an E ability. If a single Rez was so valuable then a multi Rez would have even more value.
Except that is a subjective opinion. Mercy’s mass rez not only had counterplay back then (called having basic ult economy), but she was so hard countered back then that they had to BUFF her ultimate by making her invincible during the res - Just to keep her afloat out of being a troll pick. Even still, she was considered a troll pick and niche… Hardly anything near “meta changing”. To add, currently Reworked Torb and Hammonds Ults are literally a direct hard counter to Mass rez, so please - explain how she would have no counter play in this meta? I’m getting the impression that such a claim is objectively false otherwise.
So in other words, you have no idea as to how Mercy will perform with Mass rez in this current meta and are justt giving an opinion? Got it!
Here’s my opinion:
Mass Rez is counterable, balanceable, fun, and engaging. The “Unfun to play against” and the “No counterplay” arguments are myths based on subjective opinion rather than fact, and false narratives that people used in the past to push the rework that we have today. They are partly the reason as to why Mercy was in fact an OP moth for 5 months straight - as Valkyrie. Valkyrie is a complete and utter failure, and is arguably the least impactful ultimate in the game.
Overwatch should be a game where heroes are made BETTER, not WORSE just because a few 1% of people found them “unfun to play against.” Current valk and Rez on E, is a terrible example of game design, as well as having essentially a spectator cam for an ultimate. And after 1 year of it, it’s blatantly obvious that this rework has failed it’s purpose. No impact, no engagement, no fun in a video game.
This simply won’t do. As the OP stated, res on E is horrible. It’s time to bring Mercy back to where she was actually fair, fun, and balanced to play. It’s time to put Res back where it belongs, on Q as mass rez, and tweaked from there. It’s time to end this echo chamber of meaningless nerfs that have achieved nothing but gut the hero each time and force people to play other heroes. It’s for a revert + the tweaks.
“This was a huge success!”

If counterplay was such a problem it CAN BE EASILY DONE.
Changes to Mercy if she had Mass rez again:
LoS, cant rez behind walls anymore, have to be out in the open.
0.8s cast time, allows people to stun her before she can rez
I read your comment above that said that this is a different game compared to before. And youre right, it is. We’ve had more CC added since then and ults that area denial.
With Hammond added and Torb rework incoming, it stops Mercy from swooping in and rezzing unless she wants to suicide. Cast time allows a window of opportunity to stun and CC her before she can rez. As much as people complained about CC, its there for a reason.
And even with all that, you can ult back at a revived Mercy’s team. People seem to forget that whenever Mercy ults, you can ult back. I cant recall the many times I riptired ressurected enemies because before they can get in control of their heroes, theyre stationary and vulnerable, the perfect opportunity.
I literally did not say that she would not have counterplay in this meta, but whatever.
And don’t make me laugh with the “ult economy” bs. Funny how that only ever matters to Mercy mains so they can use it to call Mass Rez “balanced”. Funny that.
Mercy got reworked because the devs themselves saw Mass Rez as unhealthy for the game. Which they themselves said. AND THEY themselves said that they want to put the notion of reverting her to rest. Mass Rez is gone for a reason.
“But gut the hero each time and force people to play other heroes” Lol,people were forced to play Mercy because she was better than every other healer. And besides, this is Overwatch. Playing multiple heroes should be expected of every player. I played Ana back in Season 3,but then she got nerfed so I played Lúcio. When I got bored of Lúcio,I played DPS heroes and tanks. I’ve been playing Sombra since she was on the PTR in November of 2016. I’ve played her through every change, including the godawful LoS nerfs. If literally all other hero mains can move on from their hero being nerfed, reworked, changed, etc then why can’t you? You can’t expect the game to revolve around Mercy. You can’t expect the devs to make the game revolve around Mercy mains. When they did that, with the double rez charge change so Mercy mains wouldn’t bite their head off,Mercy became even more of a must pick. You can cry about how Mercy is boring all you want, but there are other heroes for a reason. Play them.
It’s not a utter failure thou. It’s an utter success because the Rework took Mercy from being a troll pick barely played in pro-play to a must pick even in pro-play because that’s what happens when you remove restrictions that matter and add an “E” that specifically counters the most common form of teamfight losses the first pick because without a first pick teams are hesitant to commit to an even fight.
So this was a great success at first at making hero lose most of their weaknesses and counter the strongest weakness a team could have being down a teammate.
The Rework was so successful that Mercy went from being hero who needed buffs pre-rework to be viable to a hero that needed multiple nerfs to not feel like a must pick.
Then why is this concern brought up if it is a non factor now? If you are going to argue that “everyone hated playing against her because her ult had no counterplay” then the prime issue is no longer an issue so the main “unhealthyness” is no longer there and therefore this argue is not valid today due to its premise “it has no counterplay” being a bygone issue.
Just pointing this out as it is not the full reason for the rework.
She was Meta because the Ultimate that made her super mobile, and gave her Three Instant Cast Rez’s that she could use quickly even if the team was scattered around the map.
Mass Rez would have quote the opposite effect. She would have either the same viability as current or more likely worse as their would be easy counters.
I believe those asking for the Mass Rez to come back either do not realize or do not care that this will put Mercy in a weak spot than she currently is.
This the concern not the counterplay then. This is what is relevant to today; however I believe you have not recognized how much more powerful and simple a single point Rez is on a cooldown and how it counters the more common first pick then the less common and less needed teamwipe.
She was also considered a throw pick when she had 60 HPS and Mass Rez as an Ultimate.
And she was considered unviable at 50 HPS with Mass Rez as an Ultimate so she was buffed to 60 HPS to at least be considered an acceptable pick but that still wasn’t enough.
Sluggish - somewhat agree
Clunky - very much agree
Useless - do not very much agree
Sluggish only terms of healing which is the result of her not having variability in her healing.
Clunky in terms of how unprecise her movement is in Valk and how it feels too fast near objects, but slow when in the middle of the sky. Clunky in terms of Rez showing one hero as to be Rezzed, but instead it is one who died right next to them that gets Rezzed. Clunky in terms of Damage Boost not being a great option because you to keep on healing beam so much now.
Useless well I can see many just feeling they can get more out of other healers now to the point of why bother play her (unless in high tier play where she is again a near throw pick if not already a throw pick because Rez isn’t enough of reason to pick her over Ana who has more utility and healing note in high tier play). Uselessness however isn’t as much of an issue in the lower tiers where Mercy does just enough to work, but another nerf will likely make her unviable even there.
Resurrect to Non-Combatant Immunity - Mercy immediately grants herself immunity for at least 2.25 seconds. If Mercy then takes damage within 1 second after this, the damage is negated and the target that dealt this damage is disarmed or silenced for 2 seconds depending on how they damaged Mercy
Non-Combatant Immunity is replaced with Intervention when using Valkyrie - Mercy projects a 10m radius vertically below her. Allies within this radius cannot fall below 1 health point, and are healed for +100% from her Caduceus staff. Lasts for 6 seconds.
Guardian Angel grants a new passive, Angelic Slipstream - When Mercy uses Guardian Angel during Valkyrie, dust is dropped in the path in which she last flew which grants allies an additional 20 HP/S until Guardian Angel is used again.
Making a hero completely unbalanced in the game, OP for 5 months, and warranted sledgehammer nerfs is not something I would personally consider to be a “successful” rework.
Looking back, we should remember that it’s initial purpose was to make Mercy more engaging, rewarding, and as they put it “more fun to play against”. I would argue that out of those three things, the rework has achieved at most the “more fun to play against” argument.
Giving Mercy Valk was completely unnecessary to address Mercy’s past problems. And giving her an E move (something a lot of Mercy mains wanted) along with tweaking Mass res with a LoS and damage reduction instead of invincibility would have served her purpose just fine, without completely changing the way her ultimate worked.
If the intent was to make her a must-pick, boring to play and unimpactful however, then yes - the rework was arguably a huge success. My opinion.
