Are you describing venture or doom here? Because venture is the biggest offender of this. Just venture doesn’t fly in, they’re underground where they cannot take damage, while Doom being in the air means he’s susceptible to all projectiles and abilities. And venture also has old DPS dooms obnoxious shield generation upon ability usage. I’d call for a venture nerf before doom ngl.
Why do the supports always die in this scenario? You act like the backline cannot live a dive if the tank doesn’t peel. That’s not true at any level of play, especially if they are better than the divers which is completely possible. Most tanks in the game aren’t good at peeling anyways. A Reinhardt blocking off Ana heals is infinitely more productive than swinging aimlessly at targets he can never hit, like tracers, genjis, sombras, doomfists, etc.
You also act like not peeling = not playing with your team. The Reinhardt in this scenario quite literally is playing for his team. He is using himself as a shield to create an advantage where he zones off 2+ players on the enemy team by himself so his team can win a 4v3. Is that not playing for your team? It’s like a screen in traditional sports. You might be off the ball but you are drawing more resources than you are worth, giving your team an advantage. It’s actually a pretty selfless play considering you put your entire trust in others to convert.
I hate Venture’s design too. In general, if your hero can rapidly reposition and live, or have massive invincibility times due to a move, I hate it. There shouldn’t be a way to just escape death while allowing you to come and go as you please.
Tracer actually is the best designed or these kinds of abilities because, when Tracer recalls, she now has to play WAY more passively. And then Venture can just become invincible, OR LITERALLY FLY AWAY and all this other nonsense.
Definitely, Thier burrow underground thing is even more loaded than suzu: invulnerable, mobility, vertical mobility, aoe damage, and shield generation… This ability does not need all of that. XD
There is realistically nothing a Reinhardt can do to help his backline survive a dive
He is very good at zoning off players, multiple
When he does this, he creates an advantage for his team. If they continue to die even though they have a player advantage, then it is not the Reinhardts fault and it doesn’t mean he needs to start peeling.
Sometimes you lose a fight even though you traded your life for two picks. That doesn’t mean you did anything wrong, your team just lost with an advantage unfortunately. The best thing the Reinhardt can do is cut off the heavy crossfire, the hitscan, and cut off the sustain, Ana. On top of this, you keep so much map control which in itself helps your team survive. Knowing this, it is more likely that holding space and denying 2+ players on the enemy team from impacting the fight will help your team survive than doing anything else.
Back in OW1 when we had 2 Tanks, Dva was usually the one peeling for the backline and sometimes Hog depending on who was the main tank. We do not have that in OW2 anymore. Tanks cannot be at two places at once or do 2 things at the same time now when we only have one Tank. A Tank leaving a frontline to peel for the backline is basically throwing (unless it is some special, niche situation in which Tank can afford it without losing the frontline battle) since he gives up space and let’s everyone else on the enemy team push for free.
Usually a Cree is going to peel in 5v5 or rather he should, technically, or a Brig.
It’s called supports doing their job and tank doing theirs. Supports shouldn’t be dying to a lone Doomfist diving then if they peel for each other. And they have the dps to help.
Your job as Rein is to take space which you don’t seem to understand the importance of. Because you play in potato lobbies
I just don’t have an ego so big that I automatically discard every advice that doesn’t conform to my preconceived notions. I improved significantly on Rein by trusting my backline to do their job and me doing mine by contesting space.
You on the other hand are a qp warrior flailing about on ways to discard the advice of a top ranked tank player on how to play tank.
What an awful take; Doom is the weakest, squishiest tank and you want to… Take away his dogwater semi-block ability?
People in this forum are unreal. Anything that requires any kind of technique, quick thinking, or general skill to get value from gets cried about to get nerfed. Go play Call of Duty, because all you really want is a bunch of Soldiers, simple bot healers and simple shield tanks in the game.
They already took away 90% of Dooms skill expression, but its never good enough for the complainers in the forums.
Or the mobility. Or lessen it and shift the character towards the fighter he allegedly is. A few comments above, I suggested a change where he keeps all of it, but punch and his leap slam attack doesn’t take him as far and the idea is that he’s designed a bit more like Winston but with more damage and less range/cleave.
It can have all of that and still be unfun to play against. I’ll say it right now: I hate hyper mobility. I straight up don’t respect it.
No, they didn’t? All they did was remove his uppercut. You can still do all the crazy roof sliding and what not in some spots. What you mean is “He doesn’t one shot, so therefore he has less skill” which is a dangerous mindset.
There were literal techs to get Doom from point A to point B, ways to maximize dmg by achieving height, means to gain tactical advantage since he was much more squishy (though much more deadly) and had to be able to get close to do anything: all these things gave Doom depth and gave the player satisfaction by being to do these difficult things. Unlike now where his slam is boring and has a flat, crappy 50dmg, a crappy 2 second block, weakened punch, and weakened gun. Why would ‘crazy roof sliding’ matter now as the real advantage you gained before was increased dmg from slam and perhaps a surprise attack to 1,2,3 combo a squishy… which isnt a thing anymore.
All they shouldve done was nerfed his punch dmg some when you hit a wall and lowered his uppercut cc a good deal. Changing him to a eunuch Tank was the worst avenue to take.
Thats fine, but also… Too bad. Sorry, but its always been a part of the game and something that players like me enjoy; your respect for my use/ enjoyment of it doesnt matter to me. You want a slower moving game, go play Counterstrike or some other more one note FPS.
And im not even trying to be disrespectful, just trying to convey that perhaps if you dont like a key element of a game, maybe you should just go play a different game instead of trying to nerf the game into something it was never intended to be.
Also i agree with all this… but it also sounds a lot like just turning him back into a DPS/ high skill ceiling/ lower health hero, which I think most Doom players would also agree with/ want. I know i would. I dont need a slam that takes you across the entire map but does pillow fight dmg.
I feel like I’m the only one that plays tank here, you definitely find the time if you aren’t overextended and the enemy isn’t presently beating you down
You don’t have an ego, huh? You’ve definitely done a poor job of making that apparent
And of course the classic reply, tank doesn’t need to stop their WM1 if everyone just carries themselves. You sound like the guy that gets mad at their team dying when you never try to help them.
It is not about trying or refusing to try. It is about it being a bad move in general. If you leave the frontline to help the backline you lose the frontline and you give up that space you were holding successfully for free.
I am a support main and I never expect or want a Tank to peel for me.
