Better get used to playing Zarya every match then. If you don’t there will be no tank. I certainly won’t be doing it. Mainly because I won’t be logging in to do so.
So instead of looking at the problem of goats which is brigitte (i say that because goats simply didn’t exist before her) they decided to nerf tanks.
Beyond that they nerfed d.va which was only the 3rd most picked tank in this meta which is also a meta with 3 tanks, that leads me to believe without a doubt that these changes are for OWL and not the actual game or players.
Nah, as Hanzo main when I read about Storm Arrows replacing Scatter I had facepalm on me face.
Retarded skill was replaced with even more retarded skill
Most of my games in Quick Play have at least 2 normally more.
I just did my placement for season 14, all game with platinum and diamond players and I saw GOATS comp 0.00 times. The breakdown of my placement games mirrored that of QP with having at least 2 DPS if not more.
In Quick Play over the last 6 months or so I have seen GOATS once. That was yesterday, and we won against it using a 2/2/2 set up. We had no choice because the group I joined was set up that way in LFG.
I might be a bit biased about D.Va, since I’m a hitscan player, but 99% pickrate in the pro scene since the conception of Overwatch tells me that D.Va has to be made less versatile and give the other off tanks a chance.
That is, of course, strictly speaking about the pro scene.
Masters comp. We do have DPS players, but they lose most of the time to GOATS.
The reason you will always see DPS, no matter how bad they are, is because of their popularity. I almost always saw that Widow one trick in my QP matches, despite having 12 seconds hook cooldown and needing a year to scope in, on console might I add.
Going GOATS is an easy win most of the time (read: not all the time), and quite frankly, it is the most boring and dull way to play or watch the game. The reason people are reluctant to play GOATS is because they want to have fun in the game, play the hero they like, and feel like they won because he’s good at his hero, not because he can recognize Brigitte’s icon on the hero selection screen.
How popular, for the masses not players like me, will tanks be after the PTR changes?
And this won’t change. What will change is the fact there will be no counter to Widowmaker anymore, again due to people not playing tanks, except another Widowmaker. Oh how much fun that will be.
From my experience, and only my experience, I have a 100% win rate against GOATS as a non GOATS comp. I do not have the overall experience in the matter to speak for “pro” or top percentage Overwatch.
This is 100% your opinion. I have found playing Reinhardt fun for all 550+ hours. I like tanking. When Reinhardt isn’t the tank I choose, I still enjoy my time tanking. Just because you don’t doesn’t make your opinion true for everyone.
I honestly don’t care what Blizzard does to Bridgette. I didn’t have an issue with her on release. Many people did, I didn’t, not sure what to tell you about that one. As far as reluctance to play GOATS…there can be many reasons. Recently I have been rather irritated at letting other people play Reinhardt. This didn’t happen the first 500 hours I was playing him. Why is it so bothersome now? I have not found any real reason why, only that it bothers me when they play him massively incorrect.
Ultimately none of this makes a damn bit of difference. When the patch goes live, with all of the changes in it there will be fewer tanks played in the game. We have both agreed that in Quick Play and lower brackets Damage Dealers still do have clear representation. These changes will increase their representation in both categories. I don’t play in Masters or Grand Masters, nor do watch games in those brackets. None of what happens there is “my lane”. My lane is Quick Play and my competitive bracket. In those two places there will be little to no tank representation. So be it. Like I told a fellow tank friend of mine. “Send me a private message and tell me all about it cuz I won’t be there to see it happen.”
First off, Genji, Tracer, and Sombra are also counters to her.
But you act like tanks will die to two Mercy shots after this change. It won’t. It will just prevent tanks from being able to walk under focus fire from 2 consistent DPS sources as long as they got an Ana pumping darts into their buttcheeks.
DPS need to be threatening offensively, but most of them can’t protect or heal themselves. I’m going to be honest here, GOATS simply allows the team to disregard walking on fire like it was nothing. DPS needed their threat to be relevant, otherwise they are irrelevant.
If I tell you that I have a 100% winrate on Rein, with 1 game played on him, would you take me seriously?
Most people don’t need to. You might be an exception since you are majorly QP, but almost everyone playing comp majorly can attest to this:
You see the meta comp across all ranks. The higher you are on ladder, the more often. The reason it works despite being a comp designed for pro play, is because of trickle down meta.
Surely, a Plat GOATS team will never be as coordinated and skilled as a GM GOATS team, but you don’t really need a GM team to beat a 2-2-2 plat team.
Good for you. I’m glad that you can find joy in tanking, but it doesn’t represent what the average casual FPS player wants to do or watch.
Fewer tanks than 3 per game is always welcome, please and thank you. But if you fear that tanks become obsolete or irrelevant, I can assure you it will never happen.
Hypothetically; If the average Quick Play game contains 1 tank and the average player won’t play a tank, and I won’t play a tank, tanks will become obsolete. This has nothing to do with numbers, only my personal observation. Are you saying this will somehow change because…it just will?
Not at my level. In neither QP or Competitive do any of these heroes have any impact on Widowmaker. That being said Widowmaker has little impact in my bracket so the point is rather moot.
Quite the contrary, I act as though it won’t matter because a tank will not be present for Mercy to shoot at.
They already are. At the top level more health and sustain is picked because of the insane amounts of damage and one shot potential of Damage Dealers. I don’t play Tracer. I live in Alaska and 100 ping on Tracer doesn’t work well.

The stigma while playing as Tracer is that she is such a difficult hero to play. I disagree, Recall is the single most effective escape in the game, as well as giving her sustain. I will not list off all the DPS heroes who bring their own healing or mitigation as the list is quite extensive.
Or, you bring maximum health and sustain because it is too effective to bring other damage dealers.
I can neither disprove this statement just as much as you cannot prove it to be true.
Get ready to have zero tanks, unless of course you want to “be that guy/gal”
I’m happy/fine with most of them, but I am a bit worried for Brig here. Between armor getting nerfed and rally armor lasting only 30 seconds, it seems like her ult could just be a longer-lasting but weaker version of Lucio’s ult.
I’ll be very interested in seeing what people think testing it on the PTR (and of course live) along with how it holds up a month or two later.
Oh please. McCree, Widow and Ashe are all great options against armor. Soldier and Tracer might not be, but I can play the best DPS heroes against armor. And I still think armor is hilariously stupid.
