The “crack” makes sense imo. It’s where the magnets that hold her legs on are located, and since they’re pushed backwards a bit to give the impression of a human(ish) silhouette, in order to keep the organic flow of her body, there has to be a little crease. Otherwise she’d just be shaped like a weird hood ornament.
Honestly a robot would probably be the least efficient designed after humans.

Wait was she? I watched the Origin Trailer in bed without headphones and the volume at like 1% while I was still half-asleep so I hardly caught anything 
I was actually having this discussion with a friend of mine…At least being able to augment oneself with robotics - that would be awesome. Or just throw the whole person away and become a robot instead…

Well it’s somewhat implied.
She created the Omnics, but was sought after by Overwatch to help in fighting them… so in her turmoil she built Echo, as a reflection of herself in Omnic form kinda. A new breed of Omnic.
I have put probably close to a few years of thought into this exact idea… this concept.
I intend to see it done, especially to myself.
Especially if changes are possible quickly, or even on the fly when they are wanted.
I’d be a small little feminine thing if i could be.
