I get Rein, I lose

I’ve had it with Reins when I’m on Support. I’ve tried everything. Healing a lot, doing as much damage as I can with him FEEDING, doing both at the same time. Following him around, staying with the team, going on the flank. Nope. Nothing is enough when they consistently do the stupidest possible thing every single time. I’ve literally put one right in front of a pretty much isolated Mercy before, pinged her and everything, and watched him just walk away like she didn’t exist. My Support WR with a Rein on my team is probably like 10%

What supports do you play? Ana is usually the best for Reins who like to feed a lot. Can confirm because I am a Rein who likes to feed a lot.

I main Mercy.
I am a professional baby sitter.
And you let him get off the leash?
Shame on you! They will literally walk into traffic.

I feel the same when I get a Doomfist or Ball OTP…

Brig, LW, and Juno as mains, with emergency Moira as another option

I usually go Juno for him unless maybe we’re on a highground map (that tends to be LW’s department). You would think he’d be thriving with the speed rings and all the high HPS but nope. Either that or he charges in and leaves me with no way to cross between cover after him without getting melted by every hitscan ever

I rarely start on Moira, but might switch to her if Juno is countered. So I follow him around with orb + spray, Coal if I have it, all while tickling anything within reach, and behold as he manages to die anyway

Perhaps I should just start playing Ana for them. We’re probably going to lose anyway

Story of my life. Even if you grip them back, because charge is on a much shorter cooldown than Lifegrip, they’ll charge right back in at 1 and die. Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.

I normally wouldn’t advise this, but if your Tank is consistently feeding, just SPAM Grip then until they stop. You don’t have to do it to save their life. Do it off cooldown and make it clear you won’t stop until they start playing properly

In the same vein, I don’t ever heal feeders on Support. I just go for kills while the feeder distracts people.

And sure, the first is technically gameplay sabotage but you also can’t really prove it, and it shouldn’t happen often enough for it to do anything to your account

I love the attitude, but I try to avoid playing LW with Rein these days because somehow just having a LW on their team convinces them to play even more stupidly. I’ll do anything to lessen the chance of stupid things happening

Besides, the Rein would probably just end up throwing a hissy fit and going AFK anyway. Because they also seem rather prone to that

THIS however. This is something I need to get good at (again). Tuning out the distracting healing instincts and allowing myself to commit to those attacks when it must be done. I actually did it in a match long ago where we had a Hog forcing into Ana+Bastion+IIRC Zen. I stopped trying to enable him traditionally and just started being aggressive and going for weird unexpected plays instead. We won :raising_hands:

Ok fair tbh, I can see that happening

“Oh, I have free reign to be an idiot?”

“NO YOU DUMB LUG, YOU’RE ALREADY ONE AND IT’S TOO MUCH!!!”

:joy:

I will say, you ain’t winning with someone like that on your team anyway lol

For me, I take that chance because if their mental is that bad, they NEVER would’ve changed how they played because they wouldn’t be self aware enough to know how badly they’re playing. I feel like for most people, getting punished for a bad play is encouragement not to do it again. It’s like carrot and stick, right? If they play well, you heal them and they feel great, never die, y’know. But if they don’t, you withhold that healing and actively allow them to die even faster, making the mistake feel that much worse.

This isn’t even some manipulative theorizing either lol, I figured this out because it would happen to me on Tank and is the main reason I’m as good as I am now on that role. It definitely works even if it feels mean and there’s a chance the feeder might quit

Yessssss I love it! Damage on Support is low-key the reason to play it :joy: getting 50/50 stats on Supp is like a dopamine high for me. Like, those 10k/10k games on Ana? PEAK

Yeah those first three I find healing Rein tricky just because healing volume is low and to be really effective you have to follow Mr Charge Man closely with more limited manouevrability. Kiriko, Ana, Mercy, Baptiste, even Illari I like better.

Going by the stats, this seems to be a you problem.

His position by win-rate at each rank is

Bronze: 7th

Silver: 4th

Gold: 3rd

Plat: 3rd

Diam: 3rd

Master: 5th

GM+: 3rd

Unless you are in bronze, Rein players are winning plenty of games. If you are losing every time you have a Rein, it would suggest you are the problem, not the tank. Perhaps you need to try some other things.

I’ve also gotten a lot of bad reins lately. If I see that they’re feeding a lot I usually don’t shift to immediately blaming them for being bad and I’ll actually go in and engage with them to sort of back up their playstyle and encourage it as it usually it helps since you are with them 90% of the time as opposed to starting back and having them constantly LOS your healing.

But that HASN’T helped recently lol. Genuinely a lot of bad tanks (and supports) in general I’ve noticed lately.

lucio is a great complimentary support to rein, it typically throws the opposing team off, due to the speed benefit from lucio, have you tried going that route?

i know when im playing tank and the enemy has rein/lucio its a constant struggle to focus the lucio down while getting smacked by a giant hammer

well i mean look at the size of his head, shaped like a peanut
(im kidding)

ngl rein need a huge rework oro better yet deleteing from OW2 he so bad in ow2, ow1 was fine but 2 bahh i report rein when i see them

Rein has a high skill ceiling, and he also kinda “forces” the team into a specific type of a match where you really have to put a lot of efforts or at least concentration. So, if you are in the lower ranks, you gonna suffer ye.

Play Zen. Nobody can report you for gameplay sabotage for not putting orb on a tank

Yet another reason why Zen is the best support in the game :+1:

I feel like Reins stop feeding like what you described by a certain rank honestly.

Bastion is pretty prevalent right now and he melts Rein usually. He’s in a rough spot.

I really think they should try out giving Rein the -50% damage received they gave Moggy on his charge.

I usually play Ana for Rein. Just wait until he gets close and starts swinging, throw nade, collect your victory points.

Of course some Reins are… perhaps beyond help. The same can be said for any teammate, of course. I suspect it’s just easier to spot a Reinhardt who is playing poorly, because it’s easier to see when he’s out of position compared to a tank who has either more range or more mobility.
