I don't understand why Open Queue isn't 6v6

The very act of enforcing a 5v5 format was an admission that 6v6 was not functioning in role queue because of the various queue times between the roles. This limitation does not exist for basically any other format that is open in nature. So can someone explain to me why we are not running 6v6 in those formats?

It’s not balance. Open formats are notoriously imbalanced due to the stacking of tanks, so I simply do not understand how no one is able to the connect dots. I guess I have thousands of hours playing MH and OQ so it is painfully obvious to me that those formats are significantly better with that extra person on both teams? It opens so much in terms of team composition. I simply do not understand the motivations at this point.

It’s not because of depleted infrastructure. Blizzard has openly stated the game can handle 6v6 with ease.

It shouldn’t be because of competition between various formats. I know some players like to bounce around. For example, when I played Competitive RQ, I would practice in other formats before playing some matches. However, a lot of people play OQ or MH because those are their go to format. Personally, I don’t like 5v5 role queue, and I avoid all formats that run it, but some people like, and I don’t want to change that. Why do my formats that I like have to remain regressed?

I simply do not understand why such massive quality of fun feature is not brought back to the formats that are more or less fun focused and not contingent upon queue times. It doesn’t make any sense. The game is more fun as 6v6 in those formats.

Because they messed up the new engine, rushed the release with that said not being ready. Too much memory leaks and lack of optimizations meant the game being unstable in 6v6. If about 3-4 players used ults at same time the match could be cancelled. That happened like beginning of this year just to put it in perspective.

They tried to fix something by the wrong way, like often they do.

On balance side of things, you can achieve balance due your metric on matching folks everybody’s ability to play with at least 6 heroes.

They overcomplicated their solutions and dumbed down the game. While they simply could had fixed queue times or even please damage players by simply putting deathmatch/teamdeathmatch modes with damage role only at qp to bleed the excess of the players or catter for dps players.
