I don't think we need "evil" supports

Let the nerds do their Starcraft roleplay in peace.
It doesn’t have to be your thing.

I know they can be…

I just don’t think we NEED them to be.

I think we NEED the opposite more.

By that logic, why have any ‘evil’ villain on any role? Depth of character and lore should apply to each role. A support hero doesn’t have to be friendly and rainbows, just like a tank hero doesn’t have to be nasty and mean.

Well the heros in this game aren’t exactly that deep either.
Like Winston mei tracer etc
They all seem very 2D emotionally surfaced level characters.

I’m a very good person in real life. If I play a video game with moral options, I will always pick good ones first.

That said, because I would never do reprehensible things in real life, it’s intriguing to do evil things, let loose, and shed inhibitions in a video game.

My favorite video game characters are young kratos, and Alex Mercer because of this.

We absolutely need more evil heroes.

Moira is going to hurt some more bunnies and there’s nothing you can do to stop her.

Nothing!

Mua ha haaaaaa

Now she just needs a lab assistant.

Harley Quinn supports Joker and they are both evil. Evil people can support other people.

Correct, she is undoubtedly the most unpleasant character in Overwatch.

We have more of the opposite. 8 of the 9 Support heroes are all happy and benevolent characters, putting themselves before others.

We could use a break from it. I love Lifeweaver, and he’ll likely be my main from now on, but he’s still more of the same: Hated his life as it was, did some exploring, realised how crappy the world is, so wants to fix it. While it’s a nobel backstory, especially given he’s a bit of a rich kid, we’ve been there, done that, 7 times before him.

The Support role is lacking not only in kit diversity, but also personality diversity.

evil or ominous hero with their own reasonable and interesting motives that can bee understood if looked at that heroes perspective. Moira is good example

Random brainstorm support ideas

o Dps healers (zen/baptise)

  1. Ryuji Zaramata. Perhaps a pistols akimbo (dual wielded pistol support). Based perhaps off a japanese yakuza or the rival of the Shimadas. Themed in a black suit and tie with two guns and a iron tiger motif, this illicit streets weapon dealer brings toys to blast your enemies off the turf.

Featuring tethering drones on shift. Dual fire pistols with a ult the reverse of soldier where enemies on both the LEFT AND RIGHT (but not middle) are rapidly gunned down as he alternates fire. His E deploys a emergency pack to heal wounds. And allies under his tether can gain +10-25% faster reload and firing speeds. His dps and heals of course could be balanced according such as baptise. But he could offer a fun playmaking potential, maybe even feature a air roll with bullet fire still enabled for a matrix style rollout on double space hanzo style. Instead of wall climbing or wall riding they could maybe have wall running and wall kicks, allowing them to gain speed boosts as a pattering play making aim rewarding support who gives dps healing, recovery, and more sustained pressure and faster reloading.

  1. “Little Paul”. A american giant, this gentle giant dwarfs over most, with a hefty frame to match and 400 hp with a big hitbox and a giant axe to match. Although a bit larger, they could act as a little bit of a meatshield off tank for their allies, with abilities to cover them, and heal them with the powers of green plant magic (why not). They could have a left click axe, a right click mending beam, a shift to rush in, take a ally out of the fight and gain 200 temp shields, and a E to plant a tree granting 10-30 hps passive weaker healing to allies.

Enemies who destroy thr tree also enrage him and cpuld double his moderate damage lol, and why not let him chop down his own tree to inflict MORTAL crush dmg, dva calldown style on any enemies lol. His life story could be a rejected scientist who wanted to do good or he could be some living groot tree montrosity lol.

Traditonal healbot supports.

  1. Countess Vamira Nighella, a translyvanian blood bat countess themed utility support. Her left click could be a shorter range more zarya based beam, but with lesser dps/kill potential focus than moira but instead applying crippling debuffs to her targets such as causing +30% dmg and life steal for all allied players shooting them.

She could send sacrificial bats that heal 30 hp/s that if the target would have died. Explode and restore 50 hp insteaf preventing ONE one shot or death on a decent sized cc. She could also life funnel and transfer her life, using either the " blood of her enemies" as a resource bar, or her own if she ran out.

In some ways she’d be more meant to maybe be a gameplay analog like sojourn/baptise/s76 are to each other perhaps to moira/zarya/sym. A more healing and utility focused version with maybe less killing potential for the matchup.

Maybe she could even share a batform style fade but have a miniscule hitbox and also be able to travel slower but fly anf control time of her bat form better. Offering better ability for her to climb gaps or perhaps cross gaps moira couldn’t, at the trade off of perhaps still leaving herself a still vulnerable target to visors/charges herself.

Mostly i just want more gameplay options that play coherantly well and smooth. A lot of dps play very synergestic with their kits. Most of the time it feels like some supports are bottlenecked into theirs. Even if they maybe play the same like a sojourn vs s76, it can be nice to trade slightly different strengths and toolkits sometimes for a match or tech.

Maybe they could make a Balanced reverse mercy with a heal siphon gun that grants tankiness and dmg reduction to pocketed allies even to be the new moira v2 one day lol.

…why?
Most important things are: good idea in lore and viable and fun kit for hero. I don´t mind support being “evil”. Even supporting someone can be done for selfish purpose.

Ah, yes, cos “role model” and “shooter” are really a pair that ends well.

What support is cartoonishly evil in Overwatch though? Even Reaper has a backstory and Widow, one of the coldest characters in the game (pun intended) was a sleeper cell.

Outside of religious stories, “evil” characters don’t necessarily exist because their evil is always explained one way or the other.

Pyke is a villain???

I dunno.

Apparently Ana was a :poop: mother… that’s bad too.

I mean, he murders a lot of people in Bilgewater due to the influence of The Deep.

And given that Sentinels of Light is a very scuffed event for canonical reasons, there’s not really much to say he’s a hero.

A goal oriented/motivated villain will always be more interesting than the emotionally driven hero fighting for “whats right”

Its a hero shooter. So having evil supports would be nice too. Could be chaotic evil, chaotic nuetral, or chaotic good.

There are many types of evil they could play off of. Lawful evil for example. A bad cop or a well intentioned warped view of an authority figure.

mans been supporting talon for 7 years, he couldnt be more of a support if he tried to
