I don't like animals as actual heros

Winston as a hero makes sense within the context of Overwatch. The whole ‘intelligent genetically-engineered ape’ thing has been a sci-fi trope for decades and fits in well with the Overwatch universe: faced with the threat of superintelligent AI during the Omnic Crisis, humanity begins researching ways to improve their own intelligence in order to keep up. This leads to experiments resulting in the creation of ‘superintelligent’ non-human primates. Makes enough sense that people don’t really question it.

A hamster? Meh. I’ve warmed to the idea somewhat because his intelligence is explained by an implant in his head (and he doesn’t talk). It’s still somewhat silly though. It also doesn’t really make sense in the same context of the lore - why would anyone in the Overwatch universe want to create an intelligent hamster? It’s not like hamsters and humans are even remotely similar, so it would be of limited scientific value. It’s why people first assumed Hammond was some type of monkey.

I’d prefer if they don’t add more animals.

Overwatch is different. We like nutty.

Embrace it.

Your complaint is a minor thing to complain about.

Hey, at least Overwatch art would be getting made again, it would be refreshing.

I don’t understand how it’s ‘too Disney’, I mean talking animals isn’t a ‘Disney’ exclusive thing. Also, we are animals, so why is it a problem exactly? Because they’re a different species? These animals that show higher intelligence aren’t skipping around singing or trying to save a princess lol. They’re created by humans to see if other species can have higher intelligence.

Humans are technically animals if you think about it-

It depends on the context. Biologically we are animals, philosophically we’re not.

Regarding the topic: if we could inject reason into a machine I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible to inject reason into a monkey, thus making him a person.

How are animal heroes such a bad thing, but a fantasy as insane as Echo is fine?

Also we have sent animals to space before, that’s where Blizzard got the inspiration for Winston and Hammond

Your allowed to not like something so fair enough but since Winston is a core part of overwatch I guess your unlucky you don’t like it.

As far as Disney goes not really too much of Winstons lore I’d consider disney.

Human beings are superior organisms, yes.

But we’re still animals.

Please learn basic biology next time.

I love Winston, but Ball crossed a line that even I didn’t expect them to dare to touch.
They literally said that Jetpack Cat isn’t coming because it’s awkward and wouldn’t fit into the game (with which I completely agree) and then they give us a hamster in a ball?

Come on, Blizzard

have you ever seen a purple woman, or a robot ninja, or a bare-foot man holding 2 black holes? the designs are meant to be creative and fun, not realistic.

Too bad because it seems like blizzard is trying to turn this into a furry game for some reason. I guess they are getting desperate to get the Paladins crowd on their side now.

Soldier 76 is going to be reskinned into a fox person.

Hanzo is a wolf.

Genji is a snake.

F to you

If it were just normal animals, sure. But they were genetically engineered as part of a science experiment (I believe relating to the idea of living on the moon? Not sure.)

If you can accept a woman being tortured and re-programmed until she is literally blue, I’m sure a genetically engineered animal or two is fine.

Lest we forget that Hammond built his own pilot suit and won multiple fights against humans? Or how Winston, quite literally, saved Tracer from disappearing from this plane of existence. They’re smarter than average ‘cartoony’ animals.

Horizon’s backstory is actually pretty horrific.
