Its called flex due to how flexible the player is. To be able to bend and sway with the eb and flow of the game and provide the team with a solution the more rigid teammates can’t.
Flexing is not just filling any role at the start of a match. It’s defined by the ability to analyze the puzzle provided by the enemy comp and offering a solution by switching to something to mitigate the enemy or enable your teammates.
Since you are clearly NOT a flex player due to your lack of knowledge on the subject you should come clean and confess that you only pretended to be one in this thread to be a contrarian due to the lack of a solid argument.

it’s a good game as is. we need REAL balancing if were gonna get 222 which we wont. at least now people can fix comps by swapping roles unlike 222 where youre stuck with a horrible team. i’ve had to swap roles soooo many times just to win a comp game bc my team want to run head on into a choke instead of going around like they should’ve done to begin with or none of my healers would heal right and I had to keep my tanks alive and swap to a real shield tank to make space for my team
2-2-2 isnt going to help you lose less. I wonder what scapegoat players will choose next when they realize this.

Agree. To get good balancing, we need less variance in the system. 222 will cut down the number of possible team comps massively, while also allowing characters to fill their role more effectively (i.e. brig will become a proper healer)

People want it because win or lose, a balanced team comp is nearly always a higher quality experience. That, and Tanks and Supports could feel a lot more fun and strong individually if the only concern was balancing them against their own role.
2-2-2 would be an incredible improvement to the Solo Q side of the game, especially from Bronze to Diamond… Especially with role based SR/MMR.
Everyone is worried about DPS players playing tank/heals as DPS but that’ll just mean that they tank their rank on that role till they learn how to play it.

Literally the main argument is the legendary “5 dps” scenario. Where they claim these games are not only near constant occurrences but that they lose games because of them.
Hiding behind the guise of a “better experience” is just that. The debates I have held on this very forum have consistently and contextually been about how they think their win rates will improve and they will stand a better chance if having a “good comp”.

Not saying that flex play is not useful, but problems arise from not doing the 2-2-2. For example, You have one healer. They are doing a kickass job of keeping the team up. Then the ults come around, or someone gets in a few good shots. Now you have no heals. No heals for the time it takes them ro run back could mean a team death.
2 Tanks means that when one tank dies you have another damage soaker to move forward and hold out on the objective. This frees up the dps choices so that your dps can play people like Pharah or widowmaker who do not always get on the objective.
Also, I am not sure where this mentality that dps carry the team comes from. Maybe I am just different but I get play of the game and am on fire more often with a tank or a healer than ever with a dps.
2 guaranteed tanks = makes space for team, ult charge/peels for healers, higher chance of team-oriented gameplay
Not if they suck. Tank is played incorrectly so much. You can have people in these roles actually playing like they are dps. It happens now all the time.
